Have the damage amounts ever been posted for the different cannons, cannon balls, and grape shot?

The stuff is expensive to produce and I have a ton of the light versions from looting. I would like to compare the damage values or is it something simple like the heavy does twice the damage?

Darn. I've checked Stratics and UOGuide and still can't find any statistics on that. :(

That's a great idea, Azmo - the Blackthorn lighthouses have life bars and display damage done, and they're inanimate objects.

Can you hit people with cannon balls? Be a good way to test it!

Supposedly cannonballs damage ships, grapeshot gets the crew as well ...

A while back we got part of the information about ships and damage, but I have never seen anything about the actual damage cannon do :

Is it possible to get a better explanation of 'drift speed' and 'turn delay' on large ships? In other words, which ship type is fastest, and which is slowest? Also could we get these figures, plus 'durability' and 'cannon damage' figures for the Britannia Boat?

Phoenix: All ships move at the same speed, except rowboats.

The Tokuno and Orc ships have 100,000 hit points. The Gargish ship has 140,000 hit points. The Britannian ship has 200,000 hit points.

Woah, what the hell. What did they do to the ships?? The Tokuno ship was supposed to be faster. That is just another step backward for this game. Why give it less cannons if you aren't going to make it faster? When they first introduced High Seas and I read that it would be faster I thought "wow, they are going to actually introduce a little strategy!"....

...silly me

Grape shot affects warred guild members in a deep 3-tile-wide hail of destruction. I can't quote the damage right now because of the heat of battle last time out, but will pay more attention next time around.

If it affects warred guilds in trammel, I would assume the felucca rules apply to the cannons in felucca.

It's possible that's outdated, it was all I know of that actually mentions the relative hit points of ships - I do think they confirmed all are the same speed apart from the much slower Brit one though.

I doubt it's outdated. When I read that the Tokuno ship was faster, it was when High Seas was first released. That Q&A was well after that.

I can tell you that if one of my fishers is in a Tokuno galleon, she needs to fire these amounts at the various types of merchant ships in order to be able to board them: (1) 19 heavy cannonballs for one of the gargoyle merchant ships, and (2) 14 heavy cannonballs for one of the Tokuno-style merchant ships. So perhaps from a Tokuno galleon, the heavy cannonballs do about 7500 hp damage apiece?

The number of heavy cannonballs required is a bit less if firing the heavy cannons from one of the gargoyle galleons, but it's been too long since I've used one for fishing and I've forgotten the numbers I noted for that. I want to say the difference for that type of ship is 15 heavy cannonballs against a gargoyle merchant ship and 12 against a Tokuno-style merchant ship, but I'm not 100% sure I'm remembering that correctly.

I've never tried using the grapeshot because I don't want to deal with irritated NPC crew members when I'm using one of my fisher characters. I've also never tried using the light cannonballs on the merchant ships, although I might try it out someday as it is starting to pile up on a couple of shards where I sometimes hunt the merchant ships.

If you want to fight pirates, the orc ship is the way to go. It has a damage increase for the heavy cannons of 50%. From my experience, and i've done a lot of them, it takes from 10 to 16 cannonballs to scuttle the pirate ships and it seems to me but may be just me, the balls do more damage than the grapeshot but the grapeshot also hits the crew so usually I throw in a few shot along with mostly balls. My experience with the light cannons was they're a waste of time, takes almost double the amount to scuttle a ship.

On the Tokuno ship thing, I seem to remember we were all confused on that and one of the devs straightened us out telling us that the "drift" speed was faster which I believe it still is. Straight ahead speed is still the same and always has been. The only straight ahead speed on ships that has been changed was on the Britannia ship and they made it the same speed as all the others.

@ OP, I'd second an Orc Ship with Heavies. The 10-16 is really what you want, because as expensive as it is to make all the cannon stuff, it's easier to carry than it is to repair your ship. If you try to go at it with light weight ammo, I feel as if you would spend a lot more time doing repairs.
