Sounds like they have to stop at each Dock and maybe get an item. Like a scavenger hunt maybe.

Thanks for asking. There will be check points. Locations and the details of such will be announced at the docks during the meeting prior to the start of the Regatta.
The boats do travel at the same speed and I imagine that some of the boats will be involved in bumper car type fun at the start.

And as the seas can be dangerous at times it might be a good idea to be prepared.

Periodically an event like this is held on Great Lakes, called the "Smuggler's Run." It usually goes off pretty well. You might want to consider trying again.

As to how it's managed when all the boats run at the same speed? On GL the way it's done is to follow a set route and arrange for various forms of monitoring/progress checking to ensure the rouge is being followed. So ultimately it's a test of the captains' navigation skills.

Yes! Each boat was going to have an Official on board for the duration and the checkpoints are set so that it would make little sense to deviate from the course. Glad to hear that it works out on GL, my first shard.
