It has been a while, now, that Ultima Online has been using rather large size patches, on average above 500 Megs and sometimes quite more. Now, I noticed that it is not unusual that there may be large size files, like 80+ megs. Problem is, that if there is a connection problem "while" a large size file is being downloaded, the patcher does not resume downloading that file from where it was interrupted, but starts anew......... This of course is annoying and can get time consuming depending on what connection speed one may have. Would it be possible, please, to further improve the patcher so that when anything happens that disrupts a file download when the downloading starts again that file would resume from where the downloading was interrupted rather than having to start downloading the file anew ? Thanks.

Annoying and time consuming yes.............. but what i find frustrating is these big downloads taking me 2 hrs plus . Lastest patch took just under 4 hrs :(

Yes, and if you read the patch notes, you know that the purpose of the patch was, in fact, to further update the new patcher implementation so that future patches would take less time. Or, specifically:

Classic client 7.0.25
Classic Client Patcher Update.
* Cliloc Changes
* Due to patch system changes this specific patch will require an extend time frame to download. Please note this is will make patching for lower connection speeds easier in the future.

But they did not explain how the new patcher will make it easier (and I hope faster) the download for slower connections.... I think, that allowing to resume large files patching process from where the patching was interrupted rather than having the download for that large size file have to start anew, might quite contribute to making the process faster and less frustrating. It would be nice if an official rep told us that the new patcher will have this handy feature........

They're not going to post the technical details. If the information they posted isn't enough for you, I don't know what you expect. And, I suspect the overall goal is so that they aren't sending down lots of large files but smaller files that are integrated into larger files, which means it's unlikely that they're going to tell you what you want to hear.

While there are processes available to make interrupted downloads able to be continued, they're not exactly the most reliable, and personally, I'd rather they threw 100 small files at me than 1 large one that might be interrupted.

In the end, it's unlikely they're going to share what their exact process is, and you're asking them to improve something that you haven't actually had the opportunity to see if it does, indeed, need improvement. The patch that improves the patch system isn't going to be a reliable demonstration of it since it's being patched via the old system. How about waiting until the next sizable patch to give feedback about how it works rather than ask them to improve it based on your presumptions?

Well, I guess that splitting up large size files into a whole bunch of smaller size files that then get combined once downloaded, could work as well as long as there are no large files that force the download of that large size file to start anew if there is any interruption of the connection as it is now because that means quite considerable time lost. I guess we will see how it works with the next patch........
