Can archers get the threads?

I was pleasantly surprised to find out, my human JoAT SS abilities will let me release souls in magincia. Released 6, got 2 threads Loved it!

My elder archer has killed 31 of the others tho, and gotten nothing. Is there a trick I'm missing?

I'll check back after while, hope someone has some advice...tis quite frustrating.
