Here's some material I've assembled for the Camping profession..

Camping Skill Guide
Camping Training Journal
Camping Wish List

Revisions to be done, so suggestions & comments are welcome. I'm still toying with the presentation among other things, so the web design side of it is entirely arbitrary at this point.

I have a number of other essays I'm working on for this and other professional forums, but I'll nail this one down before divulging those.

Well I personally don't see any reason to have a guide for camping. There is only 1 way to gain skill and thats by making fires with kindling. That's it. Takes alot of kindling to gm camping. Simply go to a tree use dagger on tree to get kindling. Double click kindling to start fire. Easiest skill in game besides focus or meditation. Now a wish list is understandable.

It is a bit of overkill if you know the basics of Camping, but I wrote as if the reader knew nothing of the skill so I wouldn't leave anything out.

I think a guide should tell why and suggestions of the skills that you may want to use with the skill.

I know I want to be able to carry my bed roll on my back. Much like people do a quiver.

What some may call useless skills are not useless if you know when, where, and how to use them. If you don't know what to do with the taming skill it can also be useless.

Like a puzzle they all have a place.

Okay Fink, here are some supportive data to add to your pile of mischief.

Setup: Used provisioner bought kindling for stacking ability, with an average price of 4gp/kindling.

Tip 1: Only use the provisioner stackable type of kindling and easy buying.
Tip 2: Work directly from your bank box. Kindling stays in your bank, and you can macro ad-nauseum by pressing your "Last Object" macro with your official UO Roll-of-Coins (Artifact Rarity -1). Your campfires will just surround you at your feet, while your pile of kindling stays in the your bank box.
Tip 3: Work your skill hidden if you want to power gain, cause people will inevitably ask you why in the world you are camping. You will spend too much time honestly answering the question, then forget that your are working this highly useful skill. Don't you leave unattended you lil camping monkey you :coco:
Tip 4: Combine your purchasing efforts with your camping efforts. Work your skill where you can buy & bank (provisioners + bankers). Try: Luna Bank (Malas), Gypsy Caravan by Ancient Citadel (Ilshnar), Desert Outpost by The Lake of Fire or NE Dungeon (Ilshnar), or even Minoc Bank (Tram or Fel) as examples.

Camping Skill Gain Log

  • 00-80....3145 Kindling....128 Minutes
  • 80-85....1650 Kindling....136 Minutes
  • 85-90....3525 Kindling....188 Minutes
  • 90-95....8484 Kindling....160 Minutes
  • 95-GM....9948 Kindling....162 Minutes

Total: 26752 Kindling....774 Minutes (107008 gold)

Side note, I did encounter two walls: 88-89 and 93-94. Kind of the classic skill gain walls.

I also had 2 camping alacrity scrolls on-hand, so for grins I started a new camper to see how that would go. This method did not get finished, and would need some kind soul to finish this out with more scrolls:

  • 00 -33.0....0 Kindling....0 Minutes (bought from Gypsy)
  • 33.0-68.9....350 Kindling....15 Minutes (Alacrity Scroll #1)
  • 68.9-81.7....350 Kindling....15 Minutes (Alacrity Scroll #2)
  • 81.7-GM .... incomplete

Even I am not so bold as to buy more camping alacrity scrolls to see where that finishes. :lick:
