Every week night, trying to get to Lake Austin to play is now a crapshoot. UOTrace looks like this right now and when I can login it's the NPC 3-step. Since ALTER.NET hands off to you folks, is there anything you might be able to swing to get some ping improvement?

I'm going thru my ISP Tech support (Roadrunner) for their local hop (#2) and see what they might be able to do with Level3.net.

Looks like the biggest bottleneck is sitting in RR's routers, at least from the trace you posted. Notice the 422ms ping time in hop 2. Is that normal?

You could send this to your internet provider.
Alter.Net again? They seem to always pop up so many times in the past.

Would restarting your router do anything I wonder? Considering it seems to be lagging on connection with the first hop I wonder if reconnecting the router would give you a faster route?

No and that's why I'm banging on them. They recently introduced the Roadrunner "Turbo" into our area and speeds have been in the pot since then. It's most evident weeknights - weekends are pretty decent most of the time.

Those last 2 hops in Level3.net have me wondering as well. Even tho I know some hops won't respond, the hop prior is experiencing packet loss as well. Perhaps they have some issues needing some work?

Acknowledged more than one issue. See my note to Shamus on the .rr. hops and performance. But Level3 and ALTER are issues almost constantly.
