Hello all...
I am looking to purchase an untrained Rune Beetle that ranks a 4.0 or better.
I have been having a hard time finding one being a new tamer and with all the hunting in Tokuno going on.
I am not sure what they go for, and I am not sure I can afford one that good.. but if someone could give me the going price and let let me know if you have one for sale that would be great!

Thanks

Aristillus

Alot of tamers don't use the Pet Power Calculator because they use their own method (myself included) or don't know about it. You might want to post a link to it (if it is allowed). It is usaully easier to post the minimum scores that you are looking for in a pet and go from there. It will let anyone know what you are looking for, regardless of their rating method. Good luck with hunt.

Stayin Alive,

Thanks for the advice,
I am just looking for something with at least 90-95% in stats and resist, skills I can train myself. But who knows maybe I will get lucky and can get a tame in Tokuno before someone kills it :)
The website for the pet power calculator I use is uocraft.com

Thanks again

I looked for a couple months, spammed in Luna, spammed on forums, to find mine. He's beautiful and, indeed, the best bug I've seen...but he's not a 4 or higher. The thing about running rune beetles through the pet power calc is, the calculator issues scores based on percentages. Because of this, skill points are weighted very differently depending on whether the pet type has high median skills/stats/resists, or low median skills/stats/resists.

Here's an example. When you have a greater dragon, whose skills, stats, and resists are typically very high, each individual skill/stat/resist point is "less valuable," in a sense. A greater can have a max HP of 1000 hits...but given the right skills/stats, you may find a dragon with below 900 hits that still rates 4.0 or higher. Why? Because a greater has many skill/stat/resist points and, therefore, can afford to lose quite a few before its rating is affected.

A rune beetle, on the other hand, has lower skills, lower resists, and lower stats. Accordingly, if it is down only a couple of points, say, in its fire resist, it's rating will be greater affected, because it has fewer median points overall. It's points are weighted more heavily than a greater. Are you following me?

In a nut shell, you'll have an easier time finding a 4+ greater than a 4+ rune beetle. I'd worry less about the calculator and more about the actual skills/stats/resists. Here's what I'd look for:

If you have 90% resists (poison can even be a little lower, as it will be very high no matter what) and decent HP, then it's worth looking at. Next, you're looking for 160 dex, 120+ poison, and as close to 110 eval as possible. 160 dex, 120+ poison, 110 eval = very fast DP. Find a bug with these items, you're in business.

Thanks for that great explanation Syrus.
I have recently returned to UO after a long absence, and that info will help me a lot in my quest to get a Beetle.
I am still new to taming and am not that great at taming some aggressive monsters, hopefully when the Tokuno event ends I will have a better chance.

Thanks

Well, as far as taming aggro creatures goes, rune beetles are mean ones. If you can tame rune beetles, you can easily tame anything else, with the possible exception of greaters. Nice job!
