As stated in MANY threads the target more determines the pet of choice, now if you are more Role playing the Bushi get a Hiru plan and simple. If you are just trying to compare fighters well I agree the Cu is much more viable, Hirus dont really stand up to to much in a fight, they are another of those wasted pets.

Have one of each and use them where they work best.

Cu's are good at surviving, but their damage output... well you could fall asleep waiting for things to die. They're nice tanks though. If you can do a fair bit of damage yourself, or you're hunting with other tamers, the cu is useful enough.

Hiryu can squit things much faster, but you need to care for them more. They can't cure themselves or heal. A fresh tamed hiryu is capable of killing balrons with moderate healing, so I don't think they're a bad pet at all. But they're not a pet you can just fire and forget like you can with cu's.

Well the one thing id like to point out is as a samurai if your not running chivalry, that the Hyrius special move lowers physical resists of your targets. For that template it might make a big diferance in your damage.

See tamers have for long dismissed the damage potential of their char in favor of focusing on the pets damage. Now most times that is the best solution but, when you start in with the warrior class tamers, the pets damage is usually 2ndary to the tamer themselves!

its awesome, you just miss that bleed the dog gives

and the healing is actually a pretty big deal with the cu, especially since it cures itself.

I have had bad experiences with hiyru's, the massive cold resist weakness makes them bad against wither and hailstorm. Mayb it could work at yew gate, but I havn't seen a great bok hiyru combo since they nerfed it years ago. It used to be the best, it would dismount all the time and you couldn't break the nerve strike para. Cu's are great tanks, have great cold and energy resist, so are nice for the grinders and of course heal themselves. Dogs do seem to be sparadic with damage tho, I've had dogs chomp a guy 3-4 times in a row and drop him, and I've had dogs miss 10 times in a row and make me look silly. Overall tho I think dogs are better, the ability to cure/heal themselves mixed with bleed is better then the hiyru imo. As a bush tamer you don't need to rely on the hiyru to dismount, because of riding swipe, so I don't see any reason to use one. It's been so long since I used my hiyru, do they still give you a dimount timer in pvm? Yah that was the one that did it in for me, I would have to wait all the time to get back on my pet because it was dismounting in pvm.. which didn't actually do anything.
