Bushido/chiv...why?

I am just returning after a seven year break from the game and I am trying to understand a few things. I am currently looking at a ninjitsu based build mainly for pvp. This build includes other skills such as bushido to 120 and chivalry to 50ish. I was curious as to what point both skills would have and the benefits over other skills such as healing/anatomy. I see that bushido has a nice heal over time from confidence...and lightning strike seems fairly nice in pve...but I figure I would be using ninjitsu abilities once that gets higher. I do not see myself using any chivalry spells in pvp...I can hardly cure poison from a scorpion let alone do much else with such low skill. Was chivalry better in the past before the recent changes? Is there something I am missing in bushido? I would love to be able to squeeze resists in the build.

Currently what I am thinking is including these skills

Ninjitsu/bushido/swords/tactics/hiding/stealth/chiv

Would it be better to replace bushido/chiv with healing/anatomy, or possibly with resist/parry?

again...I haven't played in years...so I am looking for advice based on people's experience.

120 Bushido is for nerve strike on that build.
50 chiv , not sure. Perhaps people are able to fit 4fc to use close wounds in combat. Maybe makes sense if you run with a group.
I am a pvm'er , cannot really comment about that build in practice, but on such a char i would go for highest possible damage in the shortest amount of time. Having chiv doesnt help with that.

Probly talking about one of my old assassin builds that I posted?

I used to use 50 chiv a while back and it was strictly for 4 fc heals and sacred journey. Cures always stuck to cure pots.

I changed that build around quite a bit and no longer use it.

is there something about chiv that enables you to get the 4/6 cast times? or is it just that once you achieve 4/6 close wounds becomes powerful?

and it may have been one of your builds...I spent some time looking around trying to figure out what build would be most like a combat version of my thief...since being a thief in pvp is all but useless now.

I am confused...how does bushido help nerve strike? (edit - Ahh, I didn't catch that bushido was required to nerve strike)

With new thoughts...would it be better to go something along the lines of

Ninjitsu//swords/tactics/hiding/stealth/healing/anatomy?

or would I be better off skipping stealth/hiding and just going for a ninja/swords/throwing/tactics/healing/anat/resist?

I also used a similar build in the past.

The bushido + ninjitsu + swords gave a nice mana reduction bonus as well as the nerve strike.

The chivalry was because I had the points left over in my build, and chivalry was a skill which could be useful at less than 60 points (spellweaving is another). As it turned out, I never used chivalry in PvP, as the tactic was mana dump on nerve-and-death strike, if dead, "yay!" If alive, smoke bomb and try again later. It was very effective for what I used it for.

I eventually changed that character to a bok-mystic and closed the account before that template was slightly nerfed.

I play a template like that, except remove Ninja and replace it with poisoning.

Incredibly powerful.

I also have a swords/poison/archer with 80 ninjitsu and 0 resist that I play. I prefer the archer version, purely because a 77 dmg yumi doubleshot is pretty wicked when someone is disarmed and level 5 poisoned.

IMO - those are the 2 strongest templates out there right now along with the archer on a dread mare.

Those sound rather interesting. I am trying to catch up on all the new versions of the skills. I am curious of your choice of poisoning. Is this strictly for the use of abilities such as infectious strike and serpent arrow? I am reading up on it now and it doesnt say specifically, but it hints towards this - can you only poison a target with a weapon if you have poisoning skill? Would it be better to have ninjitsu and use a poisoned dart or shuriken? Would it be a good or bad move to have below 100 poisoning...as it says it can apply poisons one level higher?

Also, I am curious...as I have no experience with the gargoyle yet. Do you find that you do not need ninjitsu's animal form or any other benefits of the skill (whatever they may be) as a gargoyle?

I am still trying to figure out this whole 300 skill points in some skills equals reduced mana. It is a lot to take in at once when I am use to things being so simple.

I apologize for all the questions...but as a returning player on a new shard...I want to move forward in the right direction as quickly as possible as I have a lack of...well...everything...and thanks for all the assistance thus far.

The only thing I can add here is 50 chiv is worthless since the last Pub imo { Publish 71 - UOGuide, the Ultima Online encyclopedia ). I run two different Chiv chars {str8 pally & archer/chiv/tamer} both of which were 80 chiv, and the difference is very noticeable. Since the recent changes in Chiv they both need some serious tweaks. With the latest changes a good portion of the spells now also take into account your Chiv level and not just Karma.
