I was trying out a few different templates for fun,and one of them was wrestling and bushido. Lightning strike worked even with no weapon, but I had to keep a shield equiped to have parry...but shields and bushido doesn't mix,but I can't parry, under the current system, without something in my hands. This is a Catch 22 I think, and I would ask the Dev's to maybe look into this...and possibly allow us to "parry" attacks bare handed if we add bushido and wrestling.

Why am I thinking of that motivational poster for the Exalted RPG, where the caption is that weapon attacks cannot be parried by an unarmed person without the use of a power stunt (and the pic is an over-endowed anime chick stopping a sword by catching it by pushing her breasts together)???

(where did I put that picture...?)

I think I raised something similar to this some time ago.
The responses I got were along the lines of wrestling being "intended to be a defensive skill, so cry some more" (not an exact quote).

Bushido is the mastery a warrior chooses with a specific weapon. I do agree wrestling needs something to beef it up if you choose to use it with tactic and what not, but bushido is for a weapon specific warrior only. It'd be like letting archers parry with there bow's.

It even says in the description that samurais learned to parry with weapons. Not that their hands magically turned into forged steel and can stop weapons.

Think the epic martial artists from the movies! They don't parry with their hands, per se, but they do seem to have a talent for battling foes who are armed with weapons. Like when the martial artist is facing a guy with the sword who swings at him and the martial artist blocks it by kicking the dude's hands, thus arresting the weapon's momentum (and probably disarming him). That's a wrestler's parry!

In a game where I can summon lightning and fire from herbs and roots that can do damage to a target, why is it considered illogical that I want to be able to "parry" without a weapon? Here's an idea, take a sword or a melee weapon of your choice and take a swing at......

....and let me know how that works out for you. :D

Who says is HAS to be defensive only with very little damage output? I would love to see wrestling (Martial Arts imo) be given the same dps as a dagger or skinning knife.

Then tell me why I get hit 100% of the time if I don't have a weapon in my hand when I'm a skilled warrior?

You could be the best fencer in the world, but if someone stands you up against a skilled MMA fighter and you don't have a blade, what do you think would happen?

I agree that it shouldn't have to be defensive-only.
I have an RP character who uses wrestling offensively, with ninjitsu to allow for some damage output.

You'd try to get the hell outta dodge! Tell me, if someone throws a punch at another person what does that person do? They attempt to dodge. Now put a knife in that person's hand... What do they do when they have a punch thrown at them? They attempt to dodge...

The thing about guns is you don't need to be quicker than a bullet, just quicker than the guy pulling the trigger. My money's on Jet Li.

Reminds me of Remo Williams and if you don't know who that is or just want a laugh, go YouTube the name. :D

I actually never saw it, I just remember my friend telling me about it back in middle school. Just recently I stumbled across YouTube footage of his bullet dodging!

It's actually based on a much grittier set of action novels.

I actually knew someone who ran a Star Wars RPG setting with Remo and his sensei from the movie as Jedi - and the alien Jack Nicholson wanna-be from "Spaced Invaders" as the pilot of their ship.

Wouldn't that boost casters too much?

Also I'd think Bushido is not just a stylish way to swing a chosen weapon type. It has a lot more to it just like any MA should.

I don't agree with the names of those skills; Wrestling and Bushido in Ultima Online. To me what is described as "Wrestling" is really just BRAWLING. And "Bushido" is just a [WeaponSKill] style advancement and should have a fictional name. So should UO's "Ninjitsu".

Having said that I don't see how Bushi can't be mixed with Wrestling in the UO World where lots of things simply.. Are possible. However for balance's sake I'd suggest we should then get Wrestling weapons, maybe simply accessories to protect a Wrestler's arms thus justifying using Bushido specials. Without those equipped Wrestling should work only as Evasion and offer no moves like Disarm.

Then the Wrestler can deal damage, use moves other than Disarm and Paralyse and skills such as Bushi but also be kept in check by the same limitations as using weapons. That's the only way I'd agree to Bushi working for Wrestling considering game balance..

Either weapons or different specials or techniques if you add anatomy/tactics in with it.

In any case wrestling should be added to the LMC combat modifier while stealthing should be removed from that chart.
