Building a Vollem for a non Tamer

I finally went ahead and did it after many builds on TC.

I decided to go with Battle Defense so the pet will use Body Guard.

You have to tell the pet to guard you.

When active, Body Guard on pets, cuts incoming damage in half for the pet and owner. That parts works for PvM or PvP. For melee or spell damage.
It has a 2 tile radius so the pet has to be close.

I am using it on my human swordsman.

It works very well when active, it is on a timer and does not use any mana.

Cons: Specifically for Dungeon Wildfire

Vollems are not mounts.
Pet AI is pretty bad. While guarding, the pet goes to a far away target.
Paragon Lich Lords and Balrons immediately switch to the vollem.
You have to tell it to follow you constantly.
It will get stuck in houses and go behind the fences in the cemetery.
You have to move at mid speed to keep it from hanging on corners.

Overall:

It works as it should. It turns on Bodyguard when it goes for a Mob.
It does reduce damage to the owner and pet to 50%.

A Balron hits me for 36 when not active, 18 when active. The Blood oath and pain spike damage was reduced.
Magic damage is reduced.

If you could call the pet to you as needed it would be awesome.

The build:

I chose to not go above 20 required taming. I stopped at 15.

The taming requirement starts negative.
Each thing you add costs 3 points. If you add HP and then more HP that costs 6 points.
So plan what you want on TC.
Possible Uses, Battle Defense or Discord.

I Trained:
Physical resist 80
Fire resist 80
energy resist 80

Chose Battle defense (wrestling has to be 100 to show on choices, it needs parry shown)

Set Mana regen 30

Gave it more mana

Gave it more Hit points.

That is 7 items for 15 Taming required.

Battle defense does not require Mana.

I should have chose HP regen instead of mana regen.

I left stamina and dex at 125. I figured it would be better to walk a little slow,

This should be bolded and emphasized, almost had a heart attack when I was making my discord vollem back then...

Nice guide as usual Pawain. Have you seen this discord vollem?
This guy is just for these Treasures of Events.

I thought about a discord one. But my Archer/Bard follows me around.

Also the para lich lords and balrons would take too long to discord.
Those are the only two things that give me issues.

Yep, i have several 4 slot 120 Discord+AP Vollems for my Dexxers. My Prospectors (Mining/LJ/Fishing) have 3 slot Magery+AI Pre-Patch Vollems (were 2 slot before being leveled).

I have never tied this before so reading this got me thinking which is usually a scary thing. Do u know if the battle defense buff stacks with the peacemaking mastery buffs? I kind of feel like if these 2 things work together that might be a lil broken. If battle defense cuts it in half then the peacemaking reduces it further by (for me) -24% damage taken then on top of that ur getting the +hp regens how would u die?

I'm running invigorate for the +HP and party heal. I do not see why the peace songs would not work. The Para Balrons and LL hit hard in Fire so you need all you can get.

I tested Bodyguard on a Kirin I made a long time ago. It could stand there and let multiple greater dragons hit it while I killed them.

There has to be some PvP use for it.

When we do Shrine battles with new toons for more tabards we use peace and provo songs and it makes the NOOB toons almost invulnerable. Just the mages get us.

When you say it cuts damage to pet and owner in half, you mean it transfers half the damage to the pet instead right?

No. It does 1/2 damage to both.

It does not work like it does on players.

Are you sure?
I have been testing it on a Triton and for me it's acting identical to the player mastery (although it seems to take pets resists into account whereas player mastery splits damage 55% regardless of protector having better/worse armour.)

Here's a quick demonstration (my bard has no eval/triton has 800hp while i took my gear off but its a lot more noticeable geared up against hard hitters.)

The pets I have used it on take no damage unless they are hit. I receive no damage when the pet was the only one hit

Hmm strange, this was on Oceania. I will have to do some testing on other pets as it's certainly an interesting ability.

When I was testing against player damage I had them hit me before Bodyguard was active and then after to see my damages.

I was using a ki rin with its original HP. It did not take damage when I did.

@Pawain Do you still have it on TC?
As my experience all pets with less then 30 taming can be controlled with 0 taming skill chars (beetles, ruddy and lowland hours, etc..). So if give it 27 in the gump, will it obey elf or garg? Will it obey Human?
Does it eat: fish, fish stakes, lobsters, boots or leather bags?

I have heard you can go to 30 and still controller with human. But I have seen too many of these Go Poof with people that had it at 30.

Ok, I just went and tamed several ferrets to test how high you can make trained animal for an elf or garg.
Anyway they can accompany my fisher later. Will keep you informed in a week or so

So it doesn't depend on the slot it has? Mine is slot 3 and I can level it up to slot 5, just not allowed to get over 30 taming, right?

You will not be able to get to 5 before the taming requirement is higher than 30. Can get one carefully planned level.

If it's a legacy vollem can you get to alot 4 and keep it under 30? Since it's a 2 slot to start?
No when you increase a slot it uses points. You have to carefully plan your build and only do each type of increase once. Build it many times on Test Center until you make the perfect one for you.
