is there a reason a df dropped a ml armor set piece on its corpse?

Perhaps it looted a player who had it in his/her pack uninsured...

but if a monster loots it from a player... i though it went into a special part were only the player could get it...

I was looted in one of the peerless areas by an mob, and a member of my guild got my missing item back for me. This was well over a year ago though, so perhaps they may have changed it during this time.
