Now that EA has loosened its grip of stupidity on UO, the time has come to return Britannia to its former glory. For too long this game has stagnated and degenerated into yet another WoW clone with item dependency, useless crafting and a complete breakdown of the once highly enjoyable and functional PvP system. A side from a few select skills, the majority of the character abilities are gimped and useless. UO is not UO anymore, but World of Ultimacraft, an abomination which much be corrected as soon as possible.

The only way to achieve something like this is to restore UO to a time when it was functional and much more enjoyable. A time before Trammel, before carebear rule, when UO was a game of survival, pushing the limits of player skills and made people actually have to band together or fall. I'm talking about the greatest Era of Ultima Online: The Second Age.

T2A servers would help to revive UO's community and bring thousands of players back to Britannia. Even without updated graphics, many veteran players would return and gladly play the UO they once knew, myself included.

As it stands now, UO is practically a ghost town. Only a few servers have an even remotely stable player base. The rest are populated by only a handful of players. I suggest these dead Post-Ren servers be shut down and their player bases be merged with other more stable ones so that room can be made for the T2A severs and their players to return.

I have played on practically every other MMORPG out there and have met hundreds of old UO players who would love nothing more than to come back to UO if there were T2A servers available, many of whom are still in contact with their old guildmates they knew from UO years ago and who would also return if classic T2A servers were made available.

It's time to undo the mistakes EA has made with Ultima Online over the years and breathe life back into this dead game. Give is classic servers and bring home the people of Britannia.

Interesting to see the level of ignorance has not declined on these forums. With a reply like yours, no wonder UO has gone to hell.

Are you even playing this game?

Signing up here today and posting this seems like you want a certain memory of the past reappear for yourself

I dont think even a larger base of players want what you suggest.

There is no copy of a "classic" codebase left, they'd have to recreate it by hand. Its not going to happen.

Exactly, thats why 90% of UO population today hangs out on wbb fel. Because we all hate Trammel and enjoy messing with the kids in fel and talking trash in GC.

If you don't like people's play, you're maybe just hanging out with the wrong folks on the wrong shard?

Do you want a full dissertation about why people don't like the idea?

I would not play on such a server. While I agree that the crafting system is overcomplicated, a Fel-ruleset server does not appeal to me... and I'd guess there are lots of people it doesn't appeal to. (Plus, we already have Siege and Mugen.) There's a reason people flocked to Trammel when it came out, and it wasn't just housing. I'm sure there are some people who would love it and that's fine, but you want to build this special ruleset shard at the expense of current players.

Speaking of whom, I would imagine that most current players are too heavily invested in their home shards to pack up and move... especially since cross sharding your current stuff there would most certainly not be allowed (as it is not on Siege and Mugen).

And there is no guarantee that these "hundreds of players" you reference would actually cough up the cash to play. They may well just be waxing nostalgic. Sinking dev resources into another separate ruleset shard(s) that may not actually result in an increase in stable long-term accounts is a poor investment.

Shard merges have been discussed many times in many posts. Terrible idea. Long story short: there is no fair way to do shard merges and they would make current players quit. If you want more thoughts on this just do a search of the forums.

TL;DR: No.

I am familiar with many methods to handle such a transition with server merging, but it would require UO to... how did you put it:
stagnated and degenerated into yet another WoW clone

Lets not jump the gun & throw all the bullets on the table, thus forgetting neglecting IGNORING what each player has acquired & earned over a decade, eh? However, on the topic of friendly discussion, how would you suggest to handle such merging for the current housing & storage on each of the "dead Post-Ren" servers? In terms of what you were otherwise suggesting, if one server was to be made a sacrifice for a Pre Ren T2A server, then all should be susceptible. This would not be a smart play to scrap everything post ren, a decade+ of work for revert? That is not very realistic, yet instead just a new server at the least & most would get created. Remember that to become equipped with old rule sets that the existing system has long since replaced, EA/Mythic/Origin/Broadsword would need the settings from The Lost Lands on backup. If you were around last year, the Atlantic Shard data mysteriously corrupted & caused a 2 week+ full revert. How likely would it be for The Lost Lands original settings be kept by the company up to this day. Not likely, & I am certain they would have no way to obtain them other than from a 3rd party, in which case would in term not happen.

Let's be clear. Broadsword is not some new entity who never heard of 'shard mergers' or 'classic shard' or the other hobby horses that keep trotting out to be rejected time and time again. It's our familiar team who have given a resounding NO to ideas they consider to be unfeasible and not cost effective over and over and over again. They know the game, they know the playerbase and they have their own plans. Trying to browbeat them into actions they've already rejected is not going to fly.
