As you all know, the volunteer senior staff here at Stratics has been working hard to crowdfund the purchase of the site, which is currently up for public auction. That auction ends in 5 days, on December 26. We are at 53% of our funding goal, which is a huge achievement -- but the goal IS within reach, with the community's support.
We know this has been a stressful process for a lot of folks, and that the holidays are upon us -- so the effective "clock" on the IndieGoGo campaign and auction is ticking down fast. Because of this, the staff took the initiative to speak to the current site owner about a potential Buy It Now price to end the auction early and secure it for the community once and for all. The good news is, he is amenable to the offer. IF we are able to fully fund the IndieGoGo campaign at $10,500 in the next 3 days (midnight on Dec 23), the staff and our angel contributors have committed to making up the balance to meet the BIN. The auction will end, and we will have succeeded in purchasing the site as a community project.
To be clear: If you are considering contributing, NOW is the time.
Remember: if the campaign does not reach its full goal amount, all the money will be automatically refunded. Also please be assured that the staff will be profiting absolutely nothing from this campaign or the site ownership; our goal is preservation, not profit. With your help, we can end the uncertainty and speculation quickly instead of dragging it out for another week -- a week we know everyone would rather spend focusing on their friends and families.
We know the site IS going to be sold one way or another. We want to to keep it in the hands of the community by establishing a volunteer-run structure with no individual owner so that no one person can ever unilaterally sell the site again. Our goal is to create a stable, community-oriented Stratics once and for all, and we believe that is your goal as well. (If you haven’t read our Q/A, check it out for more details!) So let’s band together and make sure Stratics stays in the community, stays stable, and remains a strong and active asset to the UO community.
We'd also like to say how much we appreciate the contributions and support of those who have already signed onto the campaign. You continue to demonstrate that Stratics is more than just a forum... it is the collective work of hundreds of thousands of hours put in by hundreds of volunteers, contributors, and community members over nearly two decades. Let’s Bring Stratics Home, once and for all.
