Brand new to UO

I have not played any online games for about 3 years, but have leveled up and played on Everquest, DAOC, and WOW in the past. I decided to try UO because I was looking for the opportunity to play a online game that does not require me to be chained to my PC diligently trying to keep up with other players, or doing constant raids. After playing for about a week now I think I may have found what I am looking for in UO. I have a couple of questions.

1. Is there a shard that is primarily west coast players or mountain time players (currently playing on Chesapeake) ?

2. How does one seek out a good friendly guild in UO?

Welcome to UO. :)

I'll let the west coast players comment on the shard.

As for guilds, you could take a look at the UO Guilds Listing for your shard. Most guilds will have their websites listed there. Check out the websites and see which one resonates most with you. Another option is to ask advice within specific shard forums. Tell them what you're looking for (e.g., PvP, RP, adult-only, etc.) and I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

There are west coast servers: Pacific, Napa, Sonoma, Baja, Lake Austin, Origin.

As far as finding a guild, you won't find any guild search tools or anything like that in the game. The best bet would be to get involved in the community and ask around on global chat. Try to find out what the "personality" of the major guilds on your server are.

Until recently I played LA (Lake Austin) from the East Coast (NY) and had little issues regarding performance. LA is a small population shard but some really fine folks if you want to consider that one.

Pacific, Baja, Napa are all most likely more populous than LA. Can't comment on Origin or Sonoma.

Hail Friend,

I play Baja. We are a Community of fun loving Sosarians. I have played continuously for 160 months and I hope you will at least visit Baja before making any final choices.

Once you arrive on Baja, join general chat and open your Journal. Use thin gray bat at top to join gen chat then type a comma before your text to speak in gen chat.

Shout out for someone and you will almost surely be met and escorted thru your "Baja Setup!"

Also feel free to post here (I will stop back) or send me a PM.

Welcome to UO, and regardless of your choice of Shard I am happy to assist you in settling in on Any Shard.
