BLOOD REGATA

Ship yards are a buzzing with workers scouring back and forth laying the keel and ribbing. Saws and hammers can be heard in the distance. Why? Everyone is getting busy putting together their fastest ships in preperation for the up-coming, long awaited "BLOOD REGATA".
The BLOOD REGATA has been in the planning stages now for a few weeks, sponsored by Nidaros & Aryslan of Chessy and is coming around for test time. A dry run/practice run will be held on Tuesday, the 14th of December, approx. 9:30 pm, Eastern. (Time will be confirmed as we get closer to that date). The practice run will follow directly after the Paxlair Statehood held at 9:00 pm.
What is the "BLOOD REGATA"???
It is a race to see who finishes first in an all-out race of ships equipped with a crew and cannons.... Is your apponent getting to close? Slow them down by sending a "volley of cannon fire" their way. Did you catch up to the first place ship? Open fire with a bow shot and hope to hit the keel slowing them down enough for you to pass them and maybe get off a volley of fire while passing them to slow them down a little more. (or they may surprise you with some volley fire themselves, regaining the lead).
The ships will have to leave port, pick-up "BLACKDOG'S TREASURE CHEST", proceed to coordinates given ahead of time, load your chest from the middle of the ocean and proceed to the next point till all items are aquired and then on to the finish line (Port). There will be a big party after the awards are given out.
You probably guessed it to. It's held in Fel waters. It's all-out ship warfare in order to win.
The 3 top placements will be awarded prizes in a chest along with pieces-of-eight. (prizes and gold will be announced as time approaches). But it will be worth the fun.
SO STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER UPDATES on this great ship-to-ship battle for first place in the "BLOOD REGATA".
Get your ships ready for this fun race..

This is an outstanding idea! Here are some questions that are going to be of concern, but they won't necessarily dictate participation.

1. Rules? Will scuttling ships and raiding holds/stealing cannons be authorized or frowned upon?
2. What are the rules for crew composition? how many? do pets count as a crew member?

3. Will ships be limited to a specific type (orc, tokuno, gargoyle, legacy)?

4. Will there be allowances for guilds and/or alliances to field multiple crews? Will it be one ship per guild or per alliance? Will it be based on max crew/ship and multiple ships for max participation?

Just some food for thought. RBG tested a similar concept about a year ago (obviously legacy ships). Dragons make great pets, but they can be bulky and inhibit movement of other crew members. This was the basis for prohibiting them in our "Regata Death Race" concept, and it may be something to consider for your event.

Please note that I am submitting this in the spirit of supporting your event and not an attempt to hijack it, and the you are at your liberty to incorporate some, all, or none of these inputs and questions into their planning as you see fit. I am willing to provide assistance if requested, and I am excited to be a participant.

those are very good questions and thats's what I would like to see. More feed back from everyone about the Race. I am also very glad that you have an interest in the race and I (along with the team I am working with on this) am hoping that there are alot of people across the shard that have an interest in the race. To quickly try and answer sojme of your questions (as I am doing this from work....lol) :
#1) The Main point of the race is to see who the winners are. There is a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winner for the race. If players want to play around and fight each other, well, that won't put them into the winners circle. If they decide they (the racers) want to do battle with each other rather then complete the race, well that's up to them. BUT, I would like to frown upon it to some degree, but it's a race to the finish. We are hoping to have some nice prizes and it will be their loss, not mine.
32). CREW COMPOSITION? The racers can comprise any type of crew they wish. They can boggle their ship down with any amount they want. Won't help them win any faster, but might helped if attacked. PETS ALLOWED?? Well, to me , pets get in the way and are a pain on a ship, but if racers want them along, it may hinder or help. Up to them, even tho I would frown upon using them.
#3). Ships are not limited to to type of class. Not everyone has Orc ships, etc. The name of the game is to get from point point (A) to the finish line with stops along the way. It's going to involve picking up items to fill "BLACKFOOT'S TREASURE CHEST" and make it to the finish line. So navigation becomes a bigger issue here then does the type of ship.
#4). ALLOWANCES FOR GUILDS/ALLIANCE?/ There are no allowances. You make up your crew and ship as you the team see fit. if there are 3 guild ships in the race, the more the merrier. Guilds or Alliances won't make up the race, the captain of each ship will and hpow good they are at navigating.
#5). The race is not based on how many ships are going to participate. We hope there are quite a few, as there are already 6 registered. The race will go on reguardless of how many there are.
Details are being finalized and a tentative date for the first race (there are now 2 different times scheduled) will be the 15th of December. The second will be held on or close to Paxlair's 13th annivery.
I hope this helped and please e-mail back at Nidarosmayor@yahoo. com with anything further plus what you post here. Plus anyone else that has an interest in the race.
Thank you

Sounds good, so death may ensue as the race progresses in a "no-holds barred" environment so long as those who engage in combat are at risk of losing the race entirely.

-OK, pets are allowed as per each ship captain.
-Crew compositions are up to each ship captain to decide.

So, is it the new ship types, legacy ships, or is it a general "come as you are"?

I take "frowned upon" to mean "This isn't what was intended, but it won't be a disqualifier." Is that correct?

I'm just throwing this stuff out there, as I'm sure having an all out brawl as a potential should make things interesting.

Also, are there going to be provisions for handling "non-participant" interference? That's the only thing that would irk me in this situation, but it's not a deal breaker either.

Gowron, I deeply appoligize for taking this much time to respond.
To answer your other questions.
The race will consist of any thing that floats. If you think a row boat can beat everyone else, then use it. But no, there is no restriction on what type of boat you have.
Now:: to give a quick run down of dates for the 2 races, prizes, and such.
1). The first race will take place on the 15th of December. register by 8:30 Eastern Time. Launch time is scheduled for 8:45 pm. There will be (2) books each captain will have. the (first) book will be turned in before your boat is allowed to race. This will be the captains registration book to race. The (second) book will be handed in with your ships name, captains name & who you represent. This will be turned in at the winners circle/finish line. The first, second, & third ship book turned in will determine the winner.
2). a PRACTICE race will take place on the 14th of December at 9:30 pm for those interested in running a practice to the points of where the race will take you.
3). for the 15th of December race, a trophy and gold will be given.
4). BUT: for the race on the 15th of January, much larger prizes will be given.
Besides gold booty and a trophy, the 1st place winner of that race will RECEIVE the deed to an ORC Ship, complete with cannons, ammo, and goodies. estimated 1st place GRAND prize= $26-30 million. second and 3rd place winners will consist of a ship, with ship goodies and gold booty.
5). Soooo....Get your fastest ship ready for this NO-HOLDS- Barred ship race , held in Fel. Use your cunning to put your ship in first place and be the top 3 to win. (For either race date). Will your ship be in the winners circle or will it be scuttled to the bottom of the open ocean.
As the date approaches, I will post the beginning and ending points of the course, along with the stopping points along the way.
you can pre-register your ship with captains name in the mail box located in the town of Nidaros, tram, chessy. it would make things easier before the dates of the race. you can also ICQ me at 613-919-628 or e-mail me at ( [email protected].
Will send a reminder on this site and UO Forums as we approach the dates for the race.
thank you

Cut off is 8:30 pm. A gate will be opened and provided to the starting spot at 8:30 pm. sharp.
All captains will have to fill out (2) bookS with their :SHIPS NAME, CAPTAINS NAME, ICQ#, AND GUILD or TOWNSHIP. YOU WILL HAND IN (1) BOOK TO REGISTER AT THE TABLE AND THE SECOND BOOK MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE CHEST UPON TURNIN AT THE END OF THE RACE ALONG WITH ALL ITEMS YOUR SHIP PICKS UP ALONG THE WAY.
AFTER YOU ARE REGISTERED, YOU (THE CAPTAIN), will receive the rules book and a chest. The co-ordinates to the first spot will be given to all Captains just before the race begins.
You and your crew will need to travel to 4 different locations. (each stop will have the next location co-ordinates in a bag). You are to go to each location, have a crew member go ashore and grab one of these bags, and continue on to the next stop. Do this for all 4 stops, the 4th giving the co-ordinates where the race will end.
The FIRST THREE (3) ships to go ashore at the FINISH LINE and hand in their chest with (ALL) items in it will win. (ALL ITEMS,BAGS, CO-ORDINATE BOOKS and THE SECOND REGISTRATION INFO BOOK) MUST BE IN THAT CHEST WHEN YOU TURN IT IN AT THE FINISH LINE).

NOW::: THIS RACE TAKES PLACE IN FEL WATERS. IT IS A "BLOOD REGATA" meaning that it's all out sea warfare. You have the rights to slow your opponent down or continue doing nothing.

GOOD LUCK....
