Blackrock - what do I do with it?

I've been on a long hiatus from UO and just came back. Earlier today, I seem to have acquired a small piece of blackrock as a minor artifact. What does one do with this? A google search revealed it had something to do with an old event, but it from 2008 so I'm guessing that event is over. What purpose(s) do they serve now? Thanks so much in advance.

It has been used for past events, but Draconi (one of the Devs) strongly hinted in a post last week that it was going to be used again in an upcoming event very soon. Something about using it to bring down "the shield" of a certain enemy.

So hang on to it. I have a bunch, and one interesting thing about Blackrock is that it does not decay! I have it sitting in my house, not locked down at all, and it doesn't go poof... ever.
(Nice because it doesn't take up lockdowns in your house.)

If I was a dev, I'd be changing that little "feature" a few days before the next event started.

I have opver 125 bits outside my castle front door, its been there for best part of 9 months now. No one ever picks it up and i dont want it as i have about 400 pices in the castle from mining..never found a use for it and missed the last turn in for it

I suggest using the gift boxes so that you can see the little black specks against the white background if your using 2d.

Black Rock can be useful in upcoming events no harm in storing some. Here's a tip for players who are so preoccupied and selfishly camped on spawn sites just walk over to their area and pick up all the loose blackrock on the floor which they can't afford to do so being all tied up hehehe.

It's on the ground so it's free for the taking!
