Blackrock golems...all gone?

Since the Bane have gone into hiding, and their camp by Spirituality in Ilshenar is gone, why should we fear Virtuebane anymore?

On GL, at least, the blackrock golem spawn on Magincia is gone as of today's patch. Those that were there from before the down time have been killed and none have respawned...

While our EMs have done an excellent job of fleshing out and expanding the main storyline, other shards must be wondering what’s happened. Without some Bane or golem spawn somewhere it’s as if Virtuebane has given up. Kinda anticlimactic and silly before the end of the arc.

Please, someone... Restore the baddies on Magincia so the arc doesn't lose what little momentum it has.

Not spawning on GL's last night. Went to hunt them and couldn't find a single one.

Still missing on GL :(

At least a few shards still have them.. It'd be nice if the spawns could get turned back on so we have something to do till Pub 70 hits...

maybe we could paint them abyssal green, change the armor colors and call it a St Paddy's day event arc extension.

I don't play GL, actually I do, but worthy of a bump because it would suck if my main shards had this happen prematurely.

Unless it has to do with arc? I think Origin had final event, forget what other shards did...

Did they have a final event already?

They are kind of the official test shard so I reckon it makes sense they would have it first. In fact on rare occasions when they don't have things first we all tend to be a little creeped out.

None of this explains I guess why GL's lost its BR Golems. Perhaps my Fifth Magincian Crusade drove them out?

Final event(s) require Pub 70...

So no, they haven't had it yet.
That's a surprise, Publish 70 will bring New Magincia and remove the Bane Altar so I'd have expected an event before hand to be like the finale to the Bane.

I wonder what plans the team has for wrapping up this arc on shards that don't have EMs. I also wonder when and how they plan to move Clainin out of Haven on Arirang, Balhae, and Formosa, two years after every other shard lost him.

Oh wait...I guess it doesn't matter. Those are all the unpopular shards! The folks that pay the same as everyone else and are dumb enough to continue to play on those shards are just subsidizing all the EM activities and Mesanna's manual placement of NPCs and such for people who play UO on the other more populated shards and at the same time as the EMs and/or Mesanna. EA's current management apparently believes in just rewarding boot-licking and fawning. If you can't pull that off because you're too small, too independent, too "different" or don't speak a certain language, you get the bare minimum in terms of "current events" and temporary fixes for bugs and dev-team screw-ups.

I really wish the team would just stop the localized EM events and go to game-wide events. Enough of the favoritism. Keep the EMs that have done well with events the last couple of years and use them to come up with events that EVERYONE who pays to play UO can enjoy, regardless of which shard they play, what language they speak, and when and how often they can actually log on to play UO. Put an end to the activities with hand-outs that only end up in the hands of a few and continue to throw the game's economy even further out of whack. In their place, encourage players to create and run more of their own events. And instead of Mesanna showing up and giving the appearance that she favors certain groups and shards over others, maybe she and the other members of the team could just spend that time the next year or so playing incognito all over the place and actually learn first-hand how the game is actually running these days for the average player.

I suspect that the finale will be a global event with EM input, like the death of Queen Dawn and the attack on the memorial service.

Global events, modified slightly but noticeably by the EMs.

I said similar things about things like the wanted posters for Ricardo....And wouldn't you know it, people said "no, leave the wanted posters, they are a reminder of history!" I replied that it didn't make sense for them to still be there as he was no longer wanted, and I was told by my fellow players "you hate UO History!" or words to that effect.

I actually don't think they are. The only ones I'd call "the unpopular shards" are the two Siege rules set ones. Those are the ones stated by Draconi to have by far the lowest populations; those are the outliers.

Nice try, though, borrowing some of the language I used in another context for use in this one. I even deleted my old post too.

Foolish me.

Such statements are unworthy of your intellect, Tina. It's kind of pathetic, nothing your average U-Haller couldn't manage. You are not your average U-Haller.

The Asian shards have long-had shard-specific content that dwarfs that of the other shards. People used to post screencaps of it and the rest of us would go to the Asian shards and stare, open-mouthed, at what they had and we didn't.

Your argument has little if any relationship to the facts, I'm sorry.

This crusade against the Event Moderators is unworthy of you and is leading you to say things you are too smart to actually think.

I really wish the team would just stop the localized EM events and go to game-wide events.
For a long time there was no such shard-specific content...And guess what the result was?

Whining for shard-specific content. Bring back Seers! Make something like Seers but pay them a bit, that'd be alright with the law, wouldn't it? They did, and the reverse-whining began almost immediately.

We are blessed to have many kinds of content. Persistent and permanent, persistent and temporary, shard-specific, game-wide, EM-run, direct-by-EA-run, and every combination. I wish many things were different, but at the end of the day your argument boils down to: There is a kind or type of content in the game that I don't like, and therefore I want it gone, even though non-participation in it does not hurt or diminish me. Most EM items are deco-only, those with properties are things like "makes you sober" and those are charged.

The days of an EM item helping you in, say, a Faction defense are for the most part long-gone. There was one item that has invisibility charges that I'm aware of but they were limited in number and getting old charged invis. items was far easier. An EM item is not a power scroll, where someone has a semi-reasonable basis for complaining about lack of access to the content because it is essential to certain templates. You appear to sometimes be thinking of the first wave of EM items, things like the Brit. Guard Sash.

There was another paragraph in your post, but frankly, I'm too depressed to read it, let alone reply.

I can't describe how much excitement I had that the EM program was returning in 2009. When it was cancelled in 2004 I stuck around for ML but then kind of half left the game until 2009, Kept paying the account but just didn't play at all often. To a lot of people the EM program is what keeps them in UO.

Galen: Arirang, Balhae, and Formosa are NOT Japanese shards. I believe Arirang and Balhae were set up for Korean players and Formosa is for Chinese players. When the EM program started up again in 2009, those shards were part of the EM program and Mesanna's responsibility, not Japan's.

Read this old post of Mesanna's from June 25, 2009 if you don't believe me: http://vboards.stratics.com/1716385-post4.html.

Leaving Clainin laying around and not doing the event in Trinsic on those shards is in no way comparable to leaving up wanted posters for Ricardo.

I don't give a rat's-behind about collecting or trading or selling the EM items myself. What I do care about is the fact that a number of subscribers are paying to play on shards that don't get the same amount of activities and support (e.g., Mesanna placing NPCs and monsters) that other shards get.

It's hard to be supportive of a team that simply bypasses certain shards on a regular basis and seems to pay more attention to other shards. I know I'm not the only person who is tired of feeling like part of the fees we pay are being used to pay the EMs to run events at the times that are convenient for them. I'd much rather have EA use at least part of the money allocated for "live events" to pay for a part-time employee or contractor to design a few global events or even just write some fiction that ties up loose ends for the people who miss or abstain from attending EM events or simply don't have them on their shards.

Edited to add: And before you dismiss Arirang, Balhae, and Formosa as just being some more backwater shards, like you have done before, please note that one of the guilds on Formosa (Freeborn) regularly appears in the list of Top 20 guilds ranked in order by number of veteran characters. They aren't on there today, but they've been on there in the very recent past. I believe these three shards, and especially Formosa, have also recently picked up some new players from Australia and New Zealand while Oceania's hardware is located in the US.

Tina Small.

I am going to type this as calmly and deliberately as I can, given the subject matter, which is something I take very seriously.

I have never called another shard a backwater. It would never seriously occur me to call another shard such.

Not once.

I would have thought that you know me better than that.

More words fail me.

Galen, here's my public apology for being an ass to you. As far as I've seen on these forums, you have never outright called any shard a "backwater" shard.

Now would you please quit saying that Siege and Mugen are "severely underpopulated" and referring to them as "statistical outliers" in discussions with a whopping population size of 27? I'm sure the people who play on those shards and happen to frequent this forum would appreciate it.

Also, in spite of what Draconi may have said in the past, I'm pretty sure that neither of us actually know for discussion purposes that Siege and Mugen are today "severely underpopulated" compared to other shards. You can only have one character per account on those shards, so guild and character counts for those shards can't be directly compared to guild and character counts for other shards if you're trying to get any kind of rough estimate of players playing on a particular shard. For all we know, Baja's, Sonoma's, Lake Austin's, or Oceania's population might actually be smaller than Siege or Mugen's today and I sure haven't seen you suggesting that any of those shards is a "statistical outlier."

Statistical outlier has no negative connotation.

Someone with your analytical mind knows that.

If you look into, for example, salary levels in the physical sciences, you will note that analysts on occasion, perhaps even routinely, exclude the highest-paid individuals from the sample, because they will present a skewed picture. Some of them are, for example, senior partners in a high-tech-oriented law firm or business consulting firm, and their salaries do not represent the reality of salaries in the physical sciences. One would also probably exclude Bill Gates and the other higher-ups at Microsoft from a study of salaries in the computer industry; the comparison would be false.

Statistical outlier has no negative connotation. "Backwater" does and you, by your own admission now, chose to "be an ass" and misrepresent me. And not only that, you constantly refer to a post which was deleted awhile ago.

There is no way "backwater" and "outlier" have anything in common as terms. One was used for analytical purposes, in a post which I have long-since deleted (foolish me), and the other was used to, in your own words above "be an ass." Your attempting to somehow equate them is a tactic; only that and nothing more.

You've shown what you're about.
