Hello everyone, i am working on my smith some more recently haven gotten access to a friends bod collection (Massive bod collection) and want to finish my smith i am at 103 or so now and want to get to 120, scroll has bin consumed so no worries there. can someone suggest the best bods to train from 103 to 120 for me i expect its plate but never know what will work sometimes, also was wondering if talismans success chances lower skill gain chance i have noticed a few gains (could be just ggs) when i make stuff thats exceptional and not got tali on but never seem to gain with it equiped and everything is 100% that i make

Ps. Basara i know you have had the tailor bod excptional post up for along long time now, i could be wrong but i recall back in febuary when the valentines publish that implemented smith bod chances to increase that the publish notes did not say it would be doing the same to tailor bods just smith, that both smith and tailor got the added bouns of 100% intensity's off runics was the main feature. anyhow may want to check the notes of the old 5of to see i am not going to but never know if you re read them you may find your answer though i hope i am wrong since i am back into bods.

It's not anything related to the changes in February that's wrong with the tailor BODs (those changes were to smith colored vs. iron armor drops).

BODs, of both types, have ALWAYS supposed to have been 50% normal / 50% exceptional, at least up to GM, and when they were introduced, both types were supposed to be 60% Exceptional / 40% normal at Grandmaster. That's been 7 years ago. Go check all the Publish notes and descriptions of the BOD system from the point of their introduction, until today - I did, long before bringing it up.

Tailor BODs are dropping at 33% Exceptional / 67% Normal, +/- 1%, even at GM+. That is a serious issue, as it is roughly 2/3 to 1/2 of the rate they SHOULD be dropping.

Referencing what happened in February in relation to the discrepency in exceptional tailor BODs is like someone warning of an Earthquake in progress and someone retorting "But the sky is blue..." They are totally unrelated.

Back to the main part of your post.

Yes, you don't want to wear a Blacksmith bonus talisman while training. HOWEVER, if you can get one that has ONLY the "Blacksmith Exceptional Bonus" on it, with no normal "Blacksmith Bonus", it will not hurt your training attempts, while allowing you to make more of the items exceptional (which is important for BOD filling).

Remember that the "sweet Spot" for gains from items is supposed to be 60% to 80% chance of success (probably up to 90% after using a 120 PS)

At 103 skill, you can gain from filling the following BODs:

Female plate until 104.1 (a non-combinable, but some of the colored metal ones have good rewards, up to and including the colored anvils and Bronze hammers - check my guides as to ones that give those and Powder of Fortifying)

Katanas up to 104.1 (and, as a weapon that's somewhat desirable, you can make these with runics, and only combine your rejects with the BODs)

Short Spears until 105.3 (a fast, 2-handed fencing weapon - some people like them - might be worth crafting with low-end runics)

Spears until 109.0

Platemail Gorgets will give gains until 116.4, when scrolled to 120. You're probably at the tail end of the sweet spot for gains on these at 103.

Platemail Gloves give gains up to 118.9. You're probably nearing the tail end of the sweet spot for these as well.

All other Plate pieces allow gains all the way to 120.

Assuming that 120 PS expand the sweet spot from 60-80% to 60-90%, the sweet spot ranges for them would be (subtract 2.5 skill for the 80% sweet spot)-

Plate Helm: 107.1
Plate Arms: 111.3
Plate Legs: 113.8
Plate Tunic: 120.0

My suggestion:

Look at your supplies of the ingots. A Plate Suit takes 100 ingots per suit, so that, with 0 failures, a 10-count Plate LBOD takes 1000 ingots, 15-count 1500, and a 20-count 2000. Figure a "fudge factor" for losses of 20 ingots per 100.

Now, pick out the suits you want to fill - if possible and desirable, set aside both normal and exceptional sets, and fill the normals with the normal items left after filling the exceptionals whenever possible.

Any leftover ingots, fill the plate BODs that you have the lowest chance of gain on (the gorgets, first) and progress from there. That way, when you come back with more ingots, at a higher skill, you don't waste time having to fill BODs you will (At that time) have even less (or no) chance to gain on.

Work your way up through the metals that way - and if you do have to smelt anything, be sure you have 100 mining skill, are wearing +3 or +5 mining skills to go to 103 or higher, and use a salvage bag from the provisioners, for the greatest ingot return.
