Maybe in my eight+ years of playing this game i might have missed them, but I stumbled across Greater Chickens in the Jhelome farms....

made me giggle is all. Discuss.

You missed them

Greater chickens have been around for a looooooong time.
They are only labeled as "greater" since Mondain's Legacy, but they were introduced much earlier, probably around T2A.
Incidentally, it seems that they don't have any gizzards (i.e. they don't count for the Hag's Quest).

The greater chicken is the pet of choice for tamer chicken fights on many shards. These events can be tons of fun and hilarious as can be. If you see one advertised go watch it or train up your own greater chicken to take part, some of these chickens can take down ogres when properly trained. Fear the cluck and peck!

Personally, I suspect those Jhelom farmers have been using steroids and, growth factor hormones in their chicken feed to produce these super chickens.

P.S. They relabeled the Greater Mongbats as such too, a while back. Makes it a lot easier to find them for the quests.

These chickens need to be nerfed, it has gotten to where I cant even go hunting super dragons without getting ganked by an overpowered flock of fowl.
