was driving into work today and had the business news on the radio. the announcer said that due to a looming cancellation of the upcoming NFL season due to the work stoppage EA could see sales of its 2012 Madden football take a usd$165 million dollar hit due to a loss of sales if the 2012 NFL season infact gets cancelled due to the labor lockout.

I love my american football. I love my steelers. I will be pretty bummed if there is no season.

EA will be seriously bummed if there is no season. Big loss for them but they do have other projects that may save them. OH wait! This is EA Im talking about.... they better hope the NFL does have a season.

I hope they strike and get over themselves. They make a stupid amount of money off all our backs for playing a sport. If the cant appreciate life and the luxury they have... there is always the NHL.

How does the madden football take a hit if the pro's are babies and walk out?

Wouldn't people want more football then and play the game instead of watching it???

I don't know.... just maybe I don't know how the game works or anything but... just wondering.

While logical, no that isnt the way sports gamers approach Madden (or the NCAA games). The whole idea behind the game, since it comes out EVERY year, is that you are playing with the updated rosters and players each year. Every year a ton of players are traded, recruited, dropped, etc and half the point of buying the new game is the updated info. New features usually only come out every couple of years (major ones anyway).

So if they dont have a football season, there is no reason to buy this year's game ... you would just play last year's.

UO players should be more worried about Star Wars' success. Then again, EA does like to lay off people in unrelated games when another game tanks.....

This is exactly the mindset that the NFL owners are hoping the fans develop. The players and their salaries are always front and center for fans to look at and say "Wait, what? They're making millions! What a bunch of crybabies!" and side with the owners. What isn't front and center for most fans is the fact that the owners make billions of dollars, with a "B." And they want 1.) to make even more billions with a "B" and 2.) the players to make fewer millions with an "M."

So what? The owners of the places we all work make "billions" and they pay us jack squat. The very rich have been getting richer compared to everyone else for a long while. Nothing about the football situation is somehow unique.

Everyone just ignores it though and watches their football. It's like Rome and the gladiators all over again.

Football was already heading in a direction that I don`t care for.

Just like the NHL...if there is a lockout, I wont be watching for years to come.

Players. Argh man... it the players the owners all of them. Dont be so shallow. They all make stupid money off us. We dont need them, they need us. Sadly some schlum thinks painting their face with colors makes them part of the team.

I love football. The add littlet to the world at millions of dollars. I hope the whole thing shuts down.

How about this. Cut ticket prices in half, and give all us a break.

BLAH. Your silly if you think I just mean the players. We are being played by the athletes, the owners, the networks, and advertisers.

You need to rethink your math. Owners do not make billions of dollars. NFL total 7B a year minus 1B to owners. 6B -57% to players = 2.58B + 1B = 3.58B / 32 teams = 111M per owner. Oh yea those owners are racking in the money. Now out of that they pay coaches and support staff, maintance and better yet they pay for the players medical. Players take home thier paycheck and the owners are left with the bills.

"Professional athletes" in the US make stupid amounts of money for moving a ball (or something similar) around a field/court. Stupid. Amounts. Of. Money.

We've financed this to idiocy for the last 20+ years while our educational system and infrastructure has gone to hell.

We deserve what we get at this point.

The kids don't but I am with you on the statement.

It be great if football died. And restarted. Stupid money for just a game. Im sorry but look at Japan and those standing up to make change in the middle east.

Come on... reality check not a pay check.

football's overpowered anyways, let 'em strike. Only reason I like any football is so I don't have to sleep outside w/ the dog.

Actually, many yrs ago, Dallas Cowgirls went on 'strike', and what they called 'scabs' filled in for the regular players, and actually played very well and had good games to watch - the games went on, regardless.

Football is an empty 'sport'. I use the term sport loosely because that is how they (football proponents) use the term.

How utterly pathetic it is for a nation of people to idolize a bunch of drug addicted neanderthals amped up on amphetamines and steroids. Bashing each other in the head so hard it causes frequent brain injury with bodies so grotesque in size, that under other circumstances they would be on display at some desert roadside freak show.

We even refer to them as heroes. As if they were capable of doing anything heroic after a 3 day cocaine binge or slamming their Escalade into a an innocent motorist while in a drunken stupor. Yes, I know, they can do no wrong. We can't live without them. It's disgusting.

Football is worse than joining an inner-city gang. At least they get prison time for their crimes.

It should be banned. It's obviously a gateway activity that leads to criminal behavior if not stupidity.

The NFL (and Major League Baseball) are legalized monopolies. This makes big time sports in the US a very different situation from a regular job. Manning/Brady, which ever one considers the best in the game, can not go across the street to the other employer and get a job. The NFL restricts players' ability to sell their services. They also put artificial ceilings on player salaries in that players can only make a so much money under the salary system.

NOBODY comes to see owners. People come to see the best players play the games. The players want a fair percentage of the money that they produce in a system that is rigged to restrict the amount of money they can derive from their gifts. The owners simply want a higher profit margin. If they were in real financial trouble, they would open their books to an independent audit.
