Rotate your diet a bit, dont get the same things over and over. Experiment with fruits that you wouldnt normally buy, or maybe goto one of those asian flea markets and stock up there on some items, just be careful what you get, you dont need a boner for 3 days im sure

Being vegetarian really, truly, is not very healthy. I'm a trainer/nutritionist and you have to be pretty careful about what you eat. Stick to a lot of starchy carbohydrates. Favorite dish of mine is red kidney beans with brown wild rice, a little bit of garlic powder added in, and maybe some onions/peppers.

P.S - Not vegetarian, but know about it.

Veg. Lasagna
it is very good.

Make like regular lasagna only layer it with zuchini and other veggies instead and if ya not into layering cheeses in the layers try tofu.

There is an excellent soup made with Campbells tomato soup, zuchini sliced thin, worchest. sauce and *beef broth* yu can substitute that with veg. broth in a can. Add cracked black peppercorns, and few tblspoons of the worches. makes it spicy.. slow simmer it and scarf it down. I think it is 2 cans of the tom. soup and one of the broth, about 3 tbls of worches. and one zuchini thinly sliced leave the skin on or off optional..add onions if ya like.

veg. pot pies.

rice and veggies ala chinese food menu ideas sweet and sour veggies over rice, soy or one of those with veggies over rice.

stuffed cabbage rolls stuffed peppers just omit the gr. beef add more rice.

any pasta made with tom sauces without meat and pig out on pasta dishes.

get some big shrooms bread em up fry em... yum !

deep fried onion rings are *veggies* french fries are veggies

casseroles any kind that oft have meat just omit meat and eat big casserole full of veggies and noodles combos.

choc. cake made moister with shredded zuchini in it.

cornbread dressing minus all meats use veg broth for chicken broth

all home made breads and rolls yummmmmmm

pig out !

*edit* oh btw I am not a veg. I EAT MEAT ..but I love vegtables and have a million things I can make with any veg. on the planet and barely need a cookbook. . they are very versitile and flexible veggies can become anything yummy.

veg lasagna
quite yummy the non spinach version uses lots of veggies, mushrooms, zucchini, olives, onions, bell peppers yum
and no meat.

If that don't stuff ye belly ...dont know what can !

But seriously think Mexican..no meat so add beans, think chinese no meat just add more veggies or soy or sweet and sour over assorted kinds of rice for variety tons of menu ideas right there, india cooking, spanish cooking minus the seafoods even and minus the meats ie mainland global rices menu ideas. Pasta stuffed manacotti, no meat
macaroni and cheese if u can do cheese is also filling, pancakes waffles with fruits, tons of things one can do meatlessly and be slap happy eating..if one wishes to go that route.

check also the veg. recipes free and the cooking channel on the web..they're full of free recipes too.

And don't forget ya play SIEGE...so add ye some siege cupcakes, fruitcakes, nuts, and unhealthy twinkies for a full Siege player desert egg substitute meatless sweets menus ideas, why ye can even bake up a trammel traimisu *spelled the incorrectly* italian desert.

I was vegetarian for about 2 years. I was never so healthy.

However, you have to be careful to get enough protein. Add tofu-stirfry to your regular meals. If you experiment with sauces, you can get some nice variety out of that. Beans are also good.

Also, be careful not to overdo it on the starches (bread/rice/pasta) cuz those are simple sugars that lead to diabetes if you've the family history for it.

Mas,

Are you going strict vegetarian or do you plan to include eggs & milk in your diet still? If the latter, you have quite a few more recipe options open to you.

Foodnetwork.com is loaded with vegetarian recipes, and they are free. Just type in "vegetarian" in the main search box, and you will see.

-Skylark

P.S. also, if you mainly wanting to avoid eating red meat, and such, and are still OK with using meat based stocks, like chicken, beef, and seafood, you can make tons of soups, chowders, and casseroles that feature vegetables and pastas for the "bulk" but you get the flavor of the meats

they have a lot of meat substitutes if you just cant live without it. There are a lot of brands of tvp burgers, sausage, (ground or solid) that you can use. There is a product called "veat" that is pretty good.
Try using more nuts- peanut butter, almonds, walnuts, hazlenuts, pecans- yeah they are high in fat but its good fat anf they have good anti-oxidants and nutrients. Google them.
In some asian cuisines they might substitue eggplant for the meat (as in parmasign (sp?). portebella mushrooms work well too.
If you can/wish to eat fish, try that. COld water fish are particularly good, being high in omega 3's. The fish from the pacific seem to be lower in pollutants, so look for those.
As a rule of thumb, women crave carbs, men crave protein. Make sure you are getting enough. Free-range organic eggs are much lower in chol and higher in om-3's than regular eggs.
Why arent you eating meat? Health issues? Ask about free range stuff. Free range longhorns are as low in fat as turkey breast.
Ive been a veg off an on for various reasons, and have done some reading. Whenever you cut out any portion of our omniverious diet, you have to make sure you are making up those lost nutrients from somewhere else. You need to read up.
If it is just a personal choice, watch your health. Believe it or not, some people have actually been TOLD to eat meat, because their bodies needed nutrients readily available from it. Everybody is different.
When I get a craving for something "solid", I grab a handful of the aforementioned nuts, olives, a protein drink (no-sugar low fat vanilla protein powder, 1 cup 1% milk, and a bannana or a half cup frozen blueberries- you'd never believe it isnt bad for you, its so good lol), or something high in protein and with some good healthy fats. If your cholesterol is high- dont be afraid of fats- the healthy ones actually help lower your bad chols.
If you are eating out, I find the best restaurants are ethnic ones. Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Italian, and Mexican restaurants have great veggie meals that you can learn from and remake at home.
Hope any of this helps. Pm or icq me if you want to ask or talk more

Wondering that myself. Curious if this is forced onto him for something like high cholesterol or gout. If so, there are certainly other, easier methods to address those issues that don't require such drastic dietary changes.

i am not going to get to much into it but until recently (say last 20 years) a person had to live in specific areas to control a good veggie diet. 50 years ago vegetarions were almost non existent and 100 years ago peopel and science couldn't do it. Are you a vegetarian because you protest meat farms? thats the most common excuse. but unforuntaely we live in this world with animals and we can't live in harmony with other creatures we have to kill them (and in my case eat them) or just kill them. what happens in soem meat farms is terrible but that is not the way all meat is recieved. I will never be a vegetarian because of my personal views towards killing......I like it.....

I need not argue high school education on a gaming forum.

Simply put, you may need to actually pick up a book or at least back up the nonsense you say with scientific fact.

Since the process of human evolution is so long and varied, Sussman and Hart decided to focus their research on one specific species, Australopithecus afarensis, which lived between five million and two and a half million years ago and is one of the better known early human species. Most paleontologists agree that Australopithecus afarensis is the common link between fossils that came before and those that came after. It shares dental, cranial and skeletal traits with both. It's also a very well-represented species in the fossil record.

"Australopithecus afarensis was probably quite strong, like a small ape," Sussman says. Adults ranged from around 3 to 5 feet and they weighed 60-100 pounds. They were basically smallish bipedal primates. Their teeth were relatively small, very much like modern humans, and they were fruit and nut eaters.

But what Sussman and Hart discovered is that Australopithecus afarensis was not dentally pre-adapted to eat meat. "It didn't have the sharp shearing blades necessary to retain and cut such foods," Sussman says. "These early humans simply couldn't eat meat. If they couldn't eat meat, why would they hunt?"

lol, listen up kiddo.
I also made a post about vegetarianism being a control disease! Where is your 'im holier than thou' response to that?!?!?

This is what I genuinely dislike about *SOME* vegetatrians, they get all self-rightous about it and act like a bunch of buffoons. Why does it matter that I like meat? Why does it matter that you don't like meat? Why does it matter that one person eats fish and calls themselves vegetarian?

I never attacked your intelligence or decisions in life. I just couldn't care less...

All I wonder is why you have to come here and forcefully defend your decisions against an invisible attacker? No one cares that you choose not to eat meat.
Great, you are a better person than me, you keep cows alive! I said it, do you feel warm and fuzzy inside? Grow up.

I don't have the time or skill (thats cooking skill, fyi) to maintain a healthy meat-free diet. Whether I cared about killing animals for my yummy pleasure or not is besides the point, I am not goign to sit here and destroy my body with an improper diet. IF, and thats a big IF, I had the ability or motivation to maintain a healthful meat-free diet it would be a possibility in my life. And I do not appreciate people coming and trying to force their life-style, ideologies, religion, etc on me. (gawd, i sound like a frikin liberal now).

Never said I was vegan, I said no meat meaning beef, pork or poultry. Seafood is a completely different catagory to "me". He was asking for recipes to help him make a change from eating meat; not a "Holier then Thou" commentary on "I'm better then you because of what I chose to eat." Get real, it's a gaming forum.

I agree completely, and seriously why does it really matter? We are all going to die anyway, there is nothing you can do about it. No matter how 'healthy' you think you are. Enjoy life, its the only one you are going to get!

it isnt eating meat that is the problem. Like most issues, it is the degree. We breed it fatty for taste, then eat to much of it. Meat should be a condiment- not a main course. Like ham and beans, beef and barley soup, or the "rule of thumb" where what-is-it- 75% of your plate should be covered with veggies?

In studies, vegetarians have outclassed meat eaters in health issues in EVERY category. We are talking about intelligent vegetarians here- not the ones that live on twinkies, snickers, and white bread and parade around that they are "vegetarians".
BUT- there is an interesting reason for this- the fact that vegetarians are so much healthier. Listen up and learn, carnivores- the vegetarians arent healthier because they don't eat meat. They are healthier because they DO eat their veggies.
The average american eats only a handful of the many veggies that are available; and those are never in sufficient quantity and normally over-processed and cooked in unhealthy ways.
Diversity is key. Eat a wide variety of vegetables all year long. Avoid canned. If you are eating fresh- eat locally grown it they won't BE fresh. Buy orgainc, frozen. Use common sense as to preparation.

Just seen your post Goron after I posted. I completely understand and agree with what you said. I have made many changes with "My Diet" over the years. At on time I was Vegan. Many years before that I ate only raw fruits and veggies. We all make changes in life as we move on, but they are our own changes. They are neither right or wrong. Just a choice. We are no better or worse then anyone else because of what we choose to eat. Please don't think all of us are judgemental.

Just a general comment on those sentiments.

It would be nice if more people adopted this philosophy across the board. It seems like so many people are hell-bent on making everyone else live THEIR vision of what life should be. I personally live by a strong 'to each his own' philosophy and try my best to not force my opinion on others. If my neighbor is doing something bad for them, like say smoking cigarettes, or smoking pot, and not driving or letting it affect ANYONE else, why should it bother me? If they want to eat red meat, host outrageous orgies and play emo music until 3:00am (at a level that doesn't keep me awake).... Why should it bother me? Unless someone is interfering with my space or my own pursuit of happiness, why should I get worked up and convince them that their way is wrong?

In short, people need to learn how to mind their own business, quit being so arrogant and thinking they have the right to judge, and just enjoy life the way YOU want to enjoy it while leaving everyone else the hell alone. Life's too damn short as it is. Enjoy it and quit stressing about what others are doing as long as their pursuit of happiness isn't endangering your family or infringing on your own pursuits.

Seriously though, I just helped with a Cancer diet. I found foodnetwork.com to be extremely helpful with everything from nutrition info., to tons of recipes that you can search by ingredients.
Truth is, our human bodies are not meant to completely exlude meat from our diets. Wether its an adaptation or God, everything from our teeth to our digestive system is designed for us to be omnivours. This is why most vegans have to take a ton of supplements (or be underweight and lacking in energy). It depends on just how "vegetarian" you have to be. If you avoid fish and dairy, it will be more difficult to include protein and iron in your diet without supplements and protein drinks.
