BEGGING grrrrrrrrr

someone please tell me the best way to train the begging skill. I am 52.1 (got 50 off the new char, another 1.7 in sots) and have trained like .4 in about 3 hrs of clicking on blue npc's begging (originally was hitting up yellow (invul) npcs but didnt get any gains, then I tried heartwood npc's. Surely at my low level of skill gains should be better than that ?

I don't have any alacrity scrolls, but given I have hardly had a gain every 30 mins then it would be pretty much wasted.

Not sure if I am doing something wrong, or if there are 'better' npcs. Any advice will be appreciated. Couldnt' find a begging forum and pages on stratics/uoguide don't seem to host any kind of tips.

PS I have plenty of points and the skill is turned up.

Have you got one of them crystal ball thingymajigamypoos for helping you find which npcs give the optimum chance to gain?

There are a few skills it does not work with, the ones that don't check for the 'opposing' difficulty level but just use your unmodified chance of success - cooking being an example - but for most things it's very useful. For begging though, I have a feeling that skill is in the 'it won't help' category....

hehe i had a feeling this was gonna be the case, i reckon this skill is now the worse skill in the game to raise.

Persistence is the key. But it's worth it (not monetarily, of course). :)

make a macro and run around.
Nearest mobile
use skill begging
wait for target
last target

That macro is for 2d client and works great. will help you without you having to click yourself to death. Run by and hit it. Find you some pinks and blues if you can and go to work.

Ok can anyone tell me where to find an NPC to train begging? Everything I read says 'off gypsies' in britannia or gypsy camps but I have been to all the camps I know of an no one is selling training in begging. Maybe I am missing something. Assistance and or the location of a trainer would be appreciated.

There is a NPC by the name of Rufus the Gypsy by the buildings south of the Vesper graveyard (on Chessy) that can do Begging training.

It looks as if a roaming Gypsy in a town is what is required. I took a quick look in Cove, which is where it is easiest to find a Thief Guildmaster and sure enough a Gypsy is not hard to find there. Hope this helps.

you can gain from Gargoyles at TerMur moongate. Use Alt and follow one spaming begging. I went from 50 to GM that way.

I merged the two begging threads since they were so similar. Have all your begging questions answered in one spot! ;)

Remind me why training up begging is worth the trouble. Last time I got all the crystal skulls and spike heads I wanted with a new character with 50 begging.

Begging is the WORST skill in game to GM and I've done it 3X. I must be insane....

Anyway the best is the make the character with 50 begging or buy a Mythic token and take the 90... outside that there are NO NPC's that give you better gains it is just that you repeat it... I've found that going down to Wind, doing the circle in Luna... or spending time in Cove or Tokuno is best for your begging vs NPC # ratio..... there is a nice building in Tokuno where you can pretty much go beg all the NPCs downstairs then go upstairs beg from all those NPC's then back down again..

Half the problem is you can not continually beg from the same NPC over and over you have to keep moving on... there is like a 10 min timer or something before you can beg the same NPC. So finding somewhere with a lot of NPCs to Beg from is key...

If you do it in heartwood you end up with a lot of crap in your inventory that you periodically have to purge so I don't waste my time there. Alacrity scrolls can help.

Good luck.

I used a mythic token and 10 sots to gm begging. Forget eating the time, i'll spend 10-15 bucks on sale, for it and 4 other skills i hate training.

I'll be surprised if there is anything new to be Trick-or-Treated for this year. Pleasantly surprised mind you, but surprised nonetheless.

It's like working up hiding to GM and stealthing to 120 just to have a human with JoAT detect you with Tracking.... worthless......

Sorry but merging this thread into the 2013 thread changed the 'content' in that it was the location of trainers I needed not 'how to gain' which is what the 'old' post was dealing with.

The old replies are not accurate now (at least on our shard) as the ONLY gypsies that train begging on Oceania that we could find (in any sort of 'permanent' location appear to be those in the Gypsy Camp on the south side of Minoc (Silver topped tent village to the left of the healers). I would be interested to know if this location is the same on other shards.

@Petra Fyde and UOGuide could probably then change their information as the current stuff there is incorrect. We checked the gypsy camps at compassion and other locations in Ilshenar, as well as wandering 'blue' gypsies that we could find in haven, brit, etc but NONE trained begging.

I did really well with a GM beggar last Halloween on GL's. But now I'm playing a lot on Legends I'm not sure it's worth it to GM begging again. It seems if you have a decent amount of begging it's good enough. It's a HARD skill to GM and I highly suggest doing the last 10 points with pinks. I made enough off skulls when they were shiny and new to easily pay for the pinks.

Ive got a GM Beggar on every shard in the game.
Ive always found training begging to be very easy if you do it right, but time intensive.
the thought of using a mystical token for begging just drives my cheap Scottish blood crazy!

all cities in UO have one of each NPC that can train you in any of the given skills (for the most part).
Cove is the smallest of all the cities and therefor is the go to place to buy up any skill as you can find all the NPC's within a couple screens and not have to run around for a hour to find the one you are looking for.
Case in point - i logged onto Oceania as you where saying it was impossible to find a NPC to train you in begging, i recalled to Cove and 1 screen away from the a bank was this beauty.

Weird, cause I checked the gypsy in cove, as well as the gm thief, and neither had begging when I checked. Still interested to know if the gypsy camp sth of minoc has a heap as we do on Oceania. Also if anyone of you can find npc begging trainers at the gypsy camps in Ilshenar as per UO guide and Petras pages state. :)
