Anyone else having a problem taming battle chickens this morning??
When I hatched them before, I didn't need to use a collar on them; I simply hatched them in a closed off room and tamed them. I always tamed them by the 3rd try...if it even took that long... sometimes one would move away from me, but they weren't able to escape the room.
This morning, a friend of mine tried to hatch 2. He was using the same method I was...
Somehow, the first battle chicken managed to walk through the walls and took off into the woods. He looked around for it...decided it must have been some fluke...maybe the battle chicken had hit a teleporter and took off from the first floor...
On the second egg, he came to my house so I could hatch it. I grabbed my collar...the one I kept around in case one day I didn't manage to tame one by the 3rd try...
I hatched the egg, battle chicken on the ground, turn my head a fraction of an inch for a quarter of a second so I could see the collar to click it...And the chicken was already gone. Completely Gone, Through The Walls ,*POOF!*-type gone. We ran around for a good 10-15mins looking for it. Of course, they are vorpal when they're hatched so we didn't really expect to find it...
Well, we found that one down near the water, and it stopped moving long enough for me to tame it...but still...
I have no clue what happened with these. When they first came out I had enough time to tame them without using a collar... and now there's no humanly way possible to throw a collar on one before it takes off....through the walls of a 2nd floor in a house.

If it's a bug or something, hopefully someone else will be doubly careful as we were. My best suggestion, at the moment, would be: have a friend ready to throw a collar on your battle chicken the second you hatch it...just in case this is a bug, and even if it isn't.
If you don't want to risk losing one at all, then just don't hatch them until we get an answer on whether this is a bug or one-time fluke...
(and yes, I'm going to submit a bug report right now.)
