Be Careful Hatching Battle Chickens...

Anyone else having a problem taming battle chickens this morning??

When I hatched them before, I didn't need to use a collar on them; I simply hatched them in a closed off room and tamed them. I always tamed them by the 3rd try...if it even took that long... sometimes one would move away from me, but they weren't able to escape the room.

This morning, a friend of mine tried to hatch 2. He was using the same method I was...

Somehow, the first battle chicken managed to walk through the walls and took off into the woods. He looked around for it...decided it must have been some fluke...maybe the battle chicken had hit a teleporter and took off from the first floor...

On the second egg, he came to my house so I could hatch it. I grabbed my collar...the one I kept around in case one day I didn't manage to tame one by the 3rd try...

I hatched the egg, battle chicken on the ground, turn my head a fraction of an inch for a quarter of a second so I could see the collar to click it...And the chicken was already gone. Completely Gone, Through The Walls ,*POOF!*-type gone. We ran around for a good 10-15mins looking for it. Of course, they are vorpal when they're hatched so we didn't really expect to find it...
Well, we found that one down near the water, and it stopped moving long enough for me to tame it...but still...

I have no clue what happened with these. When they first came out I had enough time to tame them without using a collar... and now there's no humanly way possible to throw a collar on one before it takes off....through the walls of a 2nd floor in a house.

:(

If it's a bug or something, hopefully someone else will be doubly careful as we were. My best suggestion, at the moment, would be: have a friend ready to throw a collar on your battle chicken the second you hatch it...just in case this is a bug, and even if it isn't.

If you don't want to risk losing one at all, then just don't hatch them until we get an answer on whether this is a bug or one-time fluke...
(and yes, I'm going to submit a bug report right now.)

Oh wow!... Well...I made that warning with good intentions at least *blushes*

I just had someone tell me that they tried to hatch a normal chicken lizard in their house, and it was teleported outside. Apparently you can't hatch these in your house anymore... :(
*blushes again*

So where do you get a collar from or how do you make one? I have never seen a collar on vendors. I hatched a Battle Chicken last night in my (private) house and it just stood there while I tamed it. I won't have anymore eggs to hatch for 72 hours, so I can't check this new development out.

if one uses ones head there is allways a answer ready at hand.

if i might be so bold as to give you a suggestion?

there is a nice little island, oh id say about 5 tiles by 2 tiles.
if you where to hatch your killer birds there they would not be able to run from you.

if you have a problem finding that little island there is a couple in Vesper that are like 10x10 tiles.

enjoy.

Dot Isle is in the north bay. Center water area off the top of the mainland. This Isle has like no more then 25 tiles in size. Great fun if you have a lvl 6 Tmap for its treasure spot. Could also try the hidden valley in the mountain a the end of the westward river from Trinsic. On another though if it don't jump boxes could always block the enterance of a mining cave.

Thanks for the reply on how to make a collar. Is it called a Scale Collar? If so, what is a Scourge that it requires? Does anyone know if they are still tameable without a collar, or has that been added as a requirement?

I've never tried this on battle chickens but it works on other animals that can walk over / through certain obstacles. I know Cu's can do this. Try building yourself into a square area made out of granite tables. Then hatch them inside the square area blocked in by tables. They probably can't get through those. Once you've tamed it just destroy the granite tables. It could be considered an exploit if viewed by a GM since they can't technically get away but essentially hatching in your house could be an exploit too which is probably why them made them able to go through walls. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be able to get through the granite tables though. Let me know if that works!

Hey Map... Did you use a collar?

No, I don't have the ingredients for collars.

( I'm not even sure why I'm growing this expanding colony of chickens ... I don't actually have a use in mind for them )

The trick is to fill your lockdowns with coops full of chickens, and train them all to GM over many months. When you've got thousands of the little bastards, you find yourself an IDOC, then start releasing them by the door.

Your chicken horde shall win the day!

Am I the only one that thinks chickens should keep running around if you kill them with an axe weapon?

...Anybody?

*takes the axe away from Wulf*

Can you hatch them on a boat? It's handy and smaller than any island.

I just found two mature chicken lizard eggs that I had forgotten about. When I hatched them inside my house, they both teleported to the outside. This has never happened before, so there is definitely a change.

I hatched and tamed 4 (one battle and 3 normal) chickens inside my house this morning with no troubles. I never use a collar and I always get the tame on the first try. I'm on LS.

We were using our heads when we decided to hatch them inside a room in our houses so they couldn't run away :thumbup1: I guess the powers-that-be decided that was too easy, and changed the fact that you can't hatch and tame these chicken lizards in a house.

I suppose I will have to go and find this elusive island now, though. I wonder why they changed it

And to whomever asked, the houses were private. I'll try making mine public today and hatch a regular one to see what it does...maybe that is whats going on??

I tried to convince Shinobi that we (thieves) needed to all get 3 bonded and trained a little and then recall into a spot and do that. I thought it would be hilarious for someone to get pk'd by a bunch of thieves' battle chickens....
He laughed, but I'm not sure if he actually bought my idea :p

I just got the coolest color battle chicken there is and I hatched it and Poof!!! Gone! WTF? I am #12 in the queue and will probably be told "too bad we can't help you" but this pisses me off BAD! I have tried really hard to get one and it just disappeared immediately. I then hatched a regular color battle chicken and the same thing happened. This is ridiculous!

Spellywellyboo and Xenobia, Did you hatch the Battle Chicken inside your house, or were you outside?

Good idea. I never found him. What I did find out though is that if you go outside your house and hatch them, they don't poof on you. I tried it with some others that were ready to hatch. In the house, they poof, outside the house they stay put. I'm so mad I lost that chicken! ugh

I lost one that way yesterday it got kicked outside under the house sign. I hatched the next 3 just fine inside a town building.

The one I hatched yesterday teleported out of my house, but because I am in one of the Malas secert places it couldn't go far, and I found it easily and tamed it first time:)
So I think you just need to stop it from running too far away

Hatched one yesterday, in my public house. It didn't teleport out, collar went on it after a couple of seconds, and it tamed just fine...

I'm not clear from the other posts if theirs were hatched in private houses, or which floor (in case it's a weirdness on z-axis), hatched by the house owner's account or a 'friended' or co-owner account, or which client - any details might help pin down what's happening (although of course, it's UO, so it might be the phase of the moon or what you ate for breakfast... ;) )

Private House, 2nd floor, Owner, 2d client...and I had oatmeal for breakfast that day :)p jk)
I'm still waiting to get another battle chicken in a color I already have so I can test it out by making my house public *taps foot while waiting*

The one I lost was the yellow egg with the blue/multicolored battle chicken. *sigh* I searched everywhere for that little guy. I will not be hatching anymore of the "good ones" inside or outside of my house. I just don't trust the system right now.

Edit: I did send a bug report btw

I tried this with regular chicken lizard eggs - in the public house it stayed inside with me (second floor) - in a private house (first floor) it was ejected outside the house as soon as it took a step.

tried with a battle lizard in the public house - it stayed with me until I tamed it (but it never took a step, that was weird - still, I think it's public to private that's affecting it)

I am wondering if in a Private House it is seeing these as being non-friended to the house. Just like logging into a house that you were formerly friended to, it will eject you if that status has changed.
