Battlemage for PvM?

I am thinking of changing my Paladin into something more fun.

Does anyone ever run a Battlemage type character? By Battlemage I mean someone who has classic skills for far and up close combat. Here is an example:

Magery
Eval Int
Meditation
Tactics
Anatomy
Swordsmanship
Parry

This character could clearly hold his own from distance or up close. What are the disadvantages? My idea is to soften them up from far away then come in and finish them off up close.

Here is my current Paladin:

Swordsmanship
Tactics
Resist Spells
Anatomy
Parrying
Focus
Chivalry

My only issue is that I have a "Valor" suit of armor that will be useless now because it has no LRC.

Please no Sampire talk. I already have one in the works :)

Mana will be an issue as will be healing. The suit will cost a fortune your losing a weapon mod with spell channeling and will need to run protection which will lower your swing speed. Your also going to find that at only GM your not going to be hitting as much as you want or casting your upper tier spells as reliably as is nice.

The real issue is, I am trying to combine 5 characters into 4. Maybe it is an OCD thing...I want a treasure hunter really badly. And I would love it if my Necro or mage could do it. But I cant manage 5 characters. Actually I wont. Four is enough..

See that’s the rub there are so many skills that to be really effective you need to pick one thing and do that. Anything else requires to many tradeoffs in already cramped templates. I recommend using a mystic mage for a t-mapper or a bard it works out well and with peace and provo you can have most of the monsters do the fighting for you. Other then that the mage warrior is pretty much dead. It’s better to pick which one you like best and go with that.

Mysticism confuses me, especially with Magery combined templates. To Focus or not to Focus? should you have Focus AND Imbuing? Is Meditation good for both Magery AND Mysticism?

You only need one or the other focus or imbuing. You need focus or imbuing to have any damage with your spells with focus doing better because it provides some mana regen if you can fit both on your temp its great but in this case you probably couldn't of course its not that important as your going to cast RC and then use the magery for travel and some additional healing. You could really drop the mage part altogether for a t-mapper.

You still need to be at a soulforge to unravel, and to unravel well, you want ot be at 120 and be at the queens forge.

I have 120/120 mysticism/focus, and the RC really rocks (no pun intended).

you might want to try a mystic thrower for more fun.

Imbuing is hard to train but it is viable. Also you can drop eval and use other things for damage if you go the bard route. Its a good route and your right if your willing to work up the imbuing that would work.

Imbuing is for crafting only. it's stupid to have on any type of PvP or PvM combat character.

Well if you go with focus instead that will help your mana regen.

Yes I am going to swap out Imbuing for Focus. I will put Imbuing on my crafter. Also I will decode all my maps and then stone Cart for Eval Int when I go into battle.
