If you hatch an egg in a private house, the new chicken lizard (regular or battle) is wild and therefore probably should NOT be in your house. As soon as the game realizes something wild is in your house (e.g., the lizard moves), it is automatically ejected from the house. Hatching in a public house seems to be safer, from what I've read here. However, the wild battle chicken lizards have the speediness as vorpal bunnies and can be difficult to catch. Area peacing them as they hatch, throwing a scale collar on them, and/or hatching them in a small public room or on a small island seem to be the best options for safely hatching and catching up to them long enough to tame them.
What seems to be screwed up again are the rules around what the game does with an UNBONDED chicken lizard (battle or regular) when you claim it from a chicken coop. For one day last week, these animals were being ejected from the house when I claimed them on the Lake Austin shard. The next day, this seemed to have changed so that it was once again safe to claim unbonded lizards....on Lake Austin shard. However, my new chicken farmer on Formosa was not so lucky.
On Tuesday morning, I claimed nine unbonded chicken lizards from their coops on Formosa (in a private house) and they stayed in the house just fine.
Last night, I claimed some additional unbonded chicken lizards from their coops on Formosa and every darn one of them was ejected out of the house as I claimed it. And yet, yesterday afternoon and this morning, I claimed unbonded chicken lizards from their coops on Lake Austin and they stayed in the house.
I've suspected for quite a while now that there may be more than one team of engineers working on UO and that they have divided up the shards between themselves. (Since they have separate EM teams that seem to do drastically different things, I suppose that might make sense, i.e., the engineers on the Asian shards might have to provide more complex support for the EMs there.) But between the fact that certain effete monsters don't spawn in Holy City in Ter Mur on the non-Asian shards but DO seem to spawn on the Asian shards and now this issue with ejecting unbonded chickies out of the house, I really do wonder who handles applying changes, especially "emergency" ones to fix screwed-up game mechanics. Are there really separate teams of engineers that focus on specific shards and maybe a change was not implemented where it should have been? Or is this happening for some other unknown reason?
If you're still reading, you must be a dedicated crazy pixel chicken lizard farmer too. In the interest of helping out your fellow farmers, perhaps you would be so kind as to post here for the UO engineers what's happening to your unbonded chicken lizards when you claim them from a coop on a specific shard and perhaps a smidgeon of detail regarding the claiming farmer in case taming/lore skills are mucking this up somehow. Here's my quick summary:
Lake Austin - Unbonded chicken lizards stay in a private house when claimed from a coop. The farmer has above-GM taming and animal lore skills.
Formosa - As of Wednesday evening again, unbonded chicken lizards are ejected from a private house when claimed from a coop. (They were behaving fine on Tuesday, however.) The farmer has about 57 taming and mid-90 animal lore skills.
