The devs stated that none of the colours were rare and there was an equal chance of getting any of them. However, the reddish ones seem to be a recent addition.

While none of the hues are rarer than any other, any BC which isn't default colour is a rare colour. Or sommat.

hen, message me if you want my few hued battle chickens on Europa (neon blue & verite if memory serves). I'm just not in game enough these days to prevent them from getting fat in their little coops.

There are no "rare" colors. Pepole that sell rare are scamming you. If you breed them and can't get a certain color, its the RNG.
There are 22 different BCL colors, the 23rd is the normal green/orange chicken lizard.

I have all 22 in egg form at my house on GL if anyone wants to see them. I also have them in hatched form if you want to see them as adults.

I've a red one, plus I got shouted down in general chat by some 'experts' claiming the black BCL was rare, to my statement that no BCL colour spawn chance is any more probably (or otherwise) - curiously one of the 'experts' just 'happened' to be trying to sell said black BCL egg........

Nothing rare. Just the RNG. I got five hot pink ones in a row and no other colors. Those are popular and sold very well. Suddenly I have gotten five dark green/nox eggs in the last ten. Very strange, but nothing rare.

I have all 22 hatched. I have all 22 locked down. And I have sold a few complete sets. Working on three right now. For me, the light olive green has been "rare."
