Bake or Mares

If Mares *weren't* moutnable, which would you choose for max damage output?
A (trained) Bake or a (trained) Mare?

This is not taking into accoutn specific damage types in melee - just for general use vs moderate-tough single spawn (eg named creatures/paragons etc)

Please discuss because as far as i can see, bakes have more mana and better elemental resists, but mares pip them on strength and attack power...

Really interested in your opinions,

Garm.

Long fights: Nightmare

Short fights: bake kitsune

special case: high fire damage creatures: bake.

Reasons are as you mentioned. Mana dump for short fights, higher base damage (and str) for long fights.

Your both loony!!!

Bake > Mare

By a LONG ASS WAY!!!

Better resists, higher mana, faster hits.

Who cares about a 30 fire breath and extra maybe 2damage per hit when you have something who can solo GD's and combined with a rune beetle a paragon Bally in about 20-30secs.

What long fights are you on about where a nightmare / bettle can tank? They have no resists, if the target [at peeless] switch your nightmare dies.

Apart from the fact that I'm loony (won't deny that).

Nightmare is ridable, so taking it out of danger is easy.

The difference in damage isn't insignificant.

I've had my bake and my nightmare in Melisande, Travesty and Dread Horn, and both have survived quite nicely.

Bake has better resist, thus more survivability. Bake has a lot more mana, thus can do a huge burst of damage, but that levels out over time to where both do the same magical damage, at which point the nightmare will win the damage over time battle hands down.

So my opinion is... six in one, half dozen in the other. Both have advantages, only disadvantage of a bake is it isn't ridable and the mare has lousy resists.

The thing that I don't consider debatable is the second pet pretty much has to be a rune beetle, as tank for the mare and as support for the bake.

Nightmares suck, I wouldn't even have one if it wasn't mountable . Bake's are just better all around and require a lot less taming to control and tame as well.

UNFORTUNATELY, unless you have ninjitsu or you're a garg so you can run a bake kitsune + beetle/dread warhorse, you're going to end up with a Nightmare instead.
