Bag Ball?

Since we now have flying gargoyles maybe it is time to redo the unused bag ball courts and turn them into quidditch courts instead. That is sure to go over like a lead zeppelin. If nothing else turn them into tram PVP areas. Maybe it would become a spectator sport. One on one matches and group fights like gladiators of old.

Oh it's not that it didn't take off...

I know on GL's at least we started a tournament... there were at least 12 teams at first... but as with 99.9% of things... it was heavily griefed and there wasn't much anyone could do about it.

Folk just have no common courtesy... and the GM's do nothing to assist.

So despite the fact that bag ball was quite a lot of fun... because of a select few it quickly died. At least on GL's .... we tried to make bagball courts in homes where we could control the griefers.... but that got to where some of the "hosting" parties were as bad as the griefers... and it quickly became apparent that there wasn't going to be any "fair" way of handling things. But that's a whole nother can of worms I don't want to reopen.

But it's not unused because it wasn't fun. It's unused because it lacks proper support. Now if DEV's or GM's could run the events it'd be loads of fun..... and the Griefing would be held in check... and I didn't mention the EM's because the EM's seem quite powerless to do anything with griefers even at their own events... sadly.

It could have been great, but as with most things that "could have been great", it discounted ITGs and the "people suck" factor.

Shame. I played in 2 good games that were really fun, and attempted to play in about 10 others that were griefed beyond playable on Cats.

It still has potential.

I also like the idea of making Tram PvP arenas. With the state of current pvp, I think a PvP arena could add some life to the sport off mutual sparring.

This would work ok. I think you would need some sort of registry system. Team captains or something that vote on the Ref. Or EM's could serve as Refs. Or appoint someone. But yes Refs would then need the power to "lock" the stadium. Preventing entry to the grounds and then they would need to be able to put a player out if they were found cheating. Somewhat like a hockey penalty box.

That would fix 90% of the griefing. Also one thing that would need to be added would be a permanent communication crystal system for the people on the stands to hear the game. So to speak. As I recall that was another issue.

Bagball was fun. The best way to insure that the ball does not get placed in someones pack or that NO ONE could "carry" it.. was to have someone in a nearby house secure the ball and load it with some 10k or more stone of logs... That usually did the trick. It is possible for some folk to actually carry 450 stones. Anyway that was how we used to do it. I suppose they could make an "official" ball that weighs something similar to that.

At any rate it was fun before the griefing began.

I enjoyed bagball for a while but it's difficult to find others that play it. If there were a large pool of competing teams it would be nice. Obviously griefing is an issue too, but that's something that players should find a way to deal with themselves.

It would be nice if the bag could be permanently "sealed" once it was filled to capacity and only the person who sealed it could break the seal. This person would obviously have to be a distance away during the matches.

I had fun playing bagball for a while with my RP guild, but as all regular, scheduled events, it's hard to always have enough players. There are always less and less partakers as time pass.
But it was very fun. We were doing it on the bagball field of Europa, on Felucca facet. We never had a problem. Once, a red ghost came and asked for a rez, but it's in peacezone and there are NPCs near so he got guardwhacked (it was when reds weren't accepted in guardzones).

I did a match or two after, with other people, in Trammel. But it's not the same.

To help bagball, there should be an NPC selling bagballs and stuff to fill the bagball easily just next to the field.
