Who throws up background music when you play and what do you like to listen to?

I'm fond of older Iron Maiden or Judas Priest tunes..

Nickelback, Bon Jovi, Bob Segar.... pretty much a potpourri, as long as it's rock.

Usually it bothers the wife so I have to play in silent mode, or the regular game music turned real low.
Now, when she is gone I like playing to Van Halen. I like both the Roth era and the Hagar era.
But the 1984 album probably gets played most. I will sometimes pull out some of the AC/DC albums.
Some of the tunes from KISS are pretty good to do crafting to.

Hi Ludes - For me, it depends on which char I'm on....
My bard, Frost, also enjoys Gaelic music, but prefers it from the historical female perspective. He will switch between Loreena McKennitt, Clannad and Enya.
My more aggressive char would be inclined to be listening to one of two pieces from Pink Floyd - One Of These Days or The Dogs of War....

Most of you guys make me feel old.. never heard of them bands.. Liked Parnoc's post cause my oldest son is into C/W and is always throwing older C/W tunes at me.. and I like some of them.
Also like Darius's post cause yeah Van Halen and Van Hagar had some good tunes..

Somebody throw up a link at some of this Gaelic stuff or Enya... if you guys like it that much I should give it a listen..

Godsmack, Disturbed, Rammstein, Ozzy, Lacuna Coil, some Metallica (mainly the older ones), and odds and ends from other video games, such as Sephiroth's One Winged Angel or some Might and Magic themes.

Started listening to the EC Playsound from Pinco's when i'm in the EC, and some of that i like, particularly WarMode 6 sounds pretty epic. It has alot of music from Heroes of Might and Magic IV as well.

The Lonesome Boatman by the Fureys. Perhaps one of the best Irish songs ever.

Flogging Molly - Black Friday Rule. Flogging Molly is a blend of traditional Irish music with heavy rock/punk rock. Between the dark, emotional lyrics and the unique sound, I describe them as, "Johnny Cash meets Ireland." This song is one of their "anthems" if you will, but they have a lot of soft, somber songs. Some to check out are "If I Ever Leave This World Alive," "The Son Never Shines on Closed Doors," "Don't Let Me Die Still Wondering(which is actually a Johnny Cash tribute,) and "The Story So Far." FM is by far my top favorite band and I try to spread them to everyone I can.

Streetlight Manifesto - We Will Fall Together. SM call themselves "Hardcore Jazz," mixing heavy punk rock with a combination of jazz, European and Mexican. Most would call them "Ska" since they are punk rock using trumpets, saxes, and trombones, but they hardly have any "Ska" sounding songs. You can definitely hear a lot of Jazz and European influence in their music.

EDIT:

Here's another one.

Devil Makes Three - St. James. Opened up for Flogging Molly one year and I fell in love with them. Kind of like Mumford and Sons, only they are actually good. Good 'ol Americana/Bluegrass.

Some good "Gaelic" music from The Dubliners:

Edit: Forgot the Enya!
I'm glad you remembered to include Enya. Every time I listen to her music, I feel like I've been transported into another world... one I would love to remain in if I could. :)

Your bard should get into a bit of Karen Mathieson/Capercaillie.

Classic Rock radio station that plays all those songs from better days when gaming just needed a pencil, paper and a bag of dice. You know those songs that can be found in my 8 track collection.

Heavy Metal and The Wall are sound tracks. Could even slip on the Purple Rain sometimes.

Speaking of music, I forgot I was doing this.

A year ago I started to remake/redo all of the original MIDI's into MP3's, using higher quality instruments and adding different arrangements to them to make them slightly different from the originals. I only got around to doing Stones and Minoc, but as I was recording Minoc, and messing around on my guitar, I ended up creating this:

I think I need to go back and finish what I started. The whole idea was to make the music have more of a Celtic feel and not so much a Renaissance/Victorian. Songs like Trinsic and Skara Brae predominantly use a harpsichord , which would be replaced with a more Celtic sounding instrument, or entirely removed if I could get away with it.

Well I'm an 80's girl so a mix of 80s rock, classic rock Stones, AC/DC, Eagles, Journey, sprinkled with some 90s and a lot of Sting & the Police. Now if I'm in a country state of mind its King George(Strait) and country music up late 90s. If I'm in bardic mood its Leslie Fish, Mercedes Lackey, Alexander James Adams(aka Heather Alexander), Julia Ecklar , Enya and anything Irish or Celtic. :) Btw, my char Jirel has her own theme song thanks to Mercedes Lackey Now if its Pirating, or fishing I'm doing then there only one group for that ....The Bilge Pumps:pirate:!!
The Bilge Pumps also have drinking covered:beer: ...
.Of course there's always Midas' UO Parodies:banana:

A lot of great music recommendations - but when I'm playing UO, no external music - I like to hear the sound effects in the game - is that weird?

This house rocks when the music flows..... all kinds play and are just as well known. We all sing like canarys to them.

More often than not when I'm playing UO I'm in Vent and it would be RUDE to listen to tunage while trying to talk in vent. So.... I don't normally.

But on occasion when no one is on and no one is in vent.... I like to listen to ROCK... Harder the better... Though I've been known to enjoy just about anything and everything from ABBA to ZZTop....

I like music. I often listen to a lot of different things from Country to Blues, I even listen to some Opera... It would depend on my mood. When I'm feeling kinda mellow I like the soft music.... sometimes listening to things like flutes and native music.... drums and even have some bagpipes I enjoy listening to.... If I'm feeling down I often listen to depressive country or blues... and then try to lift my spirits with a bit of fun music like AQUA... have a giggle... maybe even a bit of Weird Al.... If I'm extremely grumpy I turn to the hard hate you music and crush you want you to die...... Heavy stuff.... Disturbed, Godsmack, Ozzy, Black Sabbath etc...... I listen to a bit of Enya.... Creed, the Beatles, Air Supply, Aerosmith, Led Zepplin.... The Bee Gees.... whatever.... When I feel sad about my parents being gone I listen to some of the stuff they used to like.... Simon and Garfunkle, Janis Joplin, the Carpenters, Kentucky Bluegrass.... etc.

I guess I like a lot of wondrous variety. I have a bunch of various songs from different games on my computer... some Final Fantasy stuff and other music.
