Back after 6 years and I'm impressed!

I took a 6 year break after having started playing in 2000.
All the changes,bugs and exploits had burned me out, and with a pain in my heart, I closed both my accounts.
A few months ago my good friend kept bugging me to come back and try it again. I was hesitant.
But after a lot of persuading I reopened my accounts.
(Many thanks to the ppl on here and the UO team for helping me locate one of the accounts.)
So....I'm impressed! The games a LOT better than it was 6 years ago. A lots been fixed, a lot has changed, for the better, and I dunno who the development team is, but it seems like they are listening to the players more.
My hats off to the developers, you guys are doing a great job and as an old faction Chaos/Order player, I commend you on taking on the monumental task of fixing factions and PVP in UO.
I think UO is due for a resurgence!
Just my 2 cents.
I'm loving this game again and I wanted to say thanks!

Order/Chaos began at launch, by my understanding, in 1997. Factions started with Publish 8, in 2000. Hm...in 2003 they made it so Order and Chaos shields could be crafted (Publish 17). Then they made it so Order and Chaos shields were worthless (Nov. 2003, Publish 21). Then in 2004, they removed Order and Chaos completely (Publish 27). Fast forward, we're on Publish 82 now, and they're thinking about entirely removing Factions for what would basically be another Order/Chaos system. Hm. Time flies.

I'm just curious as to whether you started playing after Factions started, because as someone who played before Factions, I miss the original Order/Chaos wars.

I seriously doubt that's the case Many folks have quit over that issue. The latter over the former.

Running a Public Guild Event for many years now, I'm always impressed by the amount of Returning Players I see come by each week. And I hope our assistance gives them a good reason to stay and play. A bigger and stronger Community is the only thing that will keep this game alive. Otherwise it's simply an Online Single Player game.

Ahh I see okay. So yeah, you saw the complete destruction of Order/Chaos .

Well, Factions has been through a lot since then, too. They were thinking of merging factions and making new bases but things didn't go as planned...

I've been pushing for more of a Shrine system, as they have now, but I would have rather seem such a system in the context of base fights. When Factions first came out, base fights were a lot of fun. A few years down the road and no one was playing anymore, so it was just the matter of having a dragon with detect hidden and dismount...niche roles to make up for lack of players. People kept playing, but there were too many gaps in which thieves could just farm. And then, of course, they removed Factions loyalty per account and total member per Faction restrictions...too lazy to date all of these events right now, but I am curious in mapping them all out. It's been a long time ;P.

i can't deal with what UO has become, but if by some miracle they make a pre-AOS shard, I will resubscibe to play on it
