Lucy completed the inventory, taking note of which ingredients were in short supply. "It appears we will have to gather a few things, Icky," she said. "I don't expect many visitors... there are so many other things going on in the land... but we really should do something for the holidays."

"Mees ken bakes ice creams cakes," said Icky. "En yoos ken bakes gingurbred cookiez."

Lucy nodded, smiling. "We can set out a pot of eggnog and brew up some holiday spirits to spike it with." She glanced around the deli. "I doubt that we can do much in the way of decorating. I got rid of so much of our old decor. But we can put some festive lights on the trees outside and add a bit of color to the garden."

"We ken hirez a steward, tooz," added Icky, "to gib outz libble giftz fer kristmas."

"Let's get to work, then," said Lucy. "I'll take care of the shopping . Pull out the decorations, Icky, and don't forget that tall beautiful Santa we saved from last year!"

Lucy set out the last of the decorations and stepped back to view her handiwork. "Not bad," she said. "Not especially wonderful, but not bad."

"I think it's quite wonderful!" said a familiar voice.

Lucy spun around to see who had spoken. "Oh, my... oh, my goodness!" she gasped. "Luann! You've come back to me!"

"A friend in Heartwood said you'd been searching for me," replied Luann. "I've missed you, Lucy." She smiled.

"Come in, come in, my dear sister! You must be hungry... thirsty... oh, it's so good to have you home again!"

As the two sisters hugged, Icky danced up the front walk and opened the door to the Deli. "Oh, Miz Lucy, Miz Luann, dis ib gonna bees da bestest kristmas eber!"
