Armor for the head

I was wondering what everyone uses for the head armor spot in making a suit. I just noticed there is a increase in the number of resistance points on masks and hats. I haven't ever used them. Is there a reason to use them? I don't even know if they can be imbued. Maybe they are higher because they can't be enhanced? so it balances out? I am thinking about making a suit to help my smith/miner harvest elementals and don't want to have to change it later. I was thinking of having lots of hitpoint regen on it, any suggestions? Being it is for my smith I intend to make it out of all smithed items but just noticed the headgear values and thought I would ask you all.

Hats & masks are higher because they can't be Enhanced.

You're better off going with something made of leather or metal.

Choices:

1. If you don't need to have a medable suit, any helmet will do.
2. If you are going to go the cheap route with a tailor, a leather cap, ninja hood or jingasa, but they all look hideous.

3. Best Option, and it's a Smith item to boot, is a Circlet or Royal Circlet.
a. It's the only piece of metal headgear that doesn't require a property to be "mage armor" in order to meditate.
b. It has higher base resists than any medable leather headgear, once metal choice is factored in. Even if you make it from gold, for your miner (if he has High Seas, luck is important for niter/saltpeter mining), gold has more total resists than spined leather (And they are spread more evenly, as opposed to spined being just 5 in physical).
c. It's rather unobtrusive, and allows your character's face and hair to be seen.

If you need one on LA, I think I have a bunch of circlets laying around for potential future enhancement, from where I made one for Basara.

well I couldn't wait for an answer so I made a suit allready all crafted by my smith with iron except for the +5 mining gloves. All imbued and all enhanced with valorite. The gloves I had made a while ago so I made the suit around them. I tried something different. I used a bronze runic and used up all the charges (one bronze runic for each piece.) Then I chose the ones with hitpoint regen and one with stamina regen and some had no pieces like that so I chose them with increased hit points and increase stamina and no other useless mods. I did one additional hipoint regen imbue for a total of 7 HP regen 3 stamina regen. I did all non medable stuff because he will only be killing elementals with macing anatomy tactics healing so no need for med. Chain coif chest/ ring legs arms /plate gorget/mining gloves. Tried it out and it seems good but I haven't tried a valorite yet. Did kill a few copper agagpite and verite ele's and it seemd to go well with a life leach earth elemental slayer mace. I may redo his jewelry now or not depending on how killing the valorite goes. I guess I could have made a better suit but it seems really good for what he does and I had a pile of bronze runic sitting around so..... I'm happy

other mods are all 70's resist 25 hitpoint increase, 31 stamina increase, 7 mana increase,

Remember that you only need the gloves for smelting, not the actual mining.

Also, if the gloves aren't insured or blessed, Verite and Valorite elementals WILL eventually destroy them (same goes for any other piece of equipment). It is a MUST to have all your gear either blessed or insured, if you go out hunting Verite or Valorite elementals.

Just to give you an idea, here's my miner's suit.

Accessories:
Ranger's Cloak of Augmentation
Conjurer's Garb (140 luck version)
Totem of the Void (having HPR 2 and 10% LMC is always useful)
Snake Skin Boots

Gear:
Dupre's Shield (+5 Parry, HPI & HPR 1)
Blackthorne's Kryss (Elemental slayer - I really need to eventually make me a dedicated earth elemental slayer again, but this was a gift from Wild Bill & Arwen)
Fey Leggings (human version) for HPI and 20% DI
Reading Glasses of the Trades (I earned them, so I wear them - could replace them to even out my resists at the cost of the INT & STR, but why bother)
(Imbued) Arms of Tactical Excellence (+12 Tactics, Dex +5, and the imbues into resists)
Ancient Samurai Do (+10 Parry)
Stormgrip (+8 INT, 125 Luck and 25% DI)
Leurocian's Mempo
Jewelry with a lot of skill Points

End result:
824 skill points
120 Mace-fighting (real)
120 Blacksmith
110 Tactics
100 Anatomy
100 Mining
100 Parry
90 Healing
84 Chivalry

565 luck before popping on my soon to be 9-year bonus from the anniversary statue
(I stone Macing when I need to use Arms Lore for crafting)

135 STR, 128 HP, 100 Dex/Stam, 43 Int/Mana

The only time HP regen might come into play is if I get a paragon valorite elemental; otherwise bandages and life leech will do.

I know I could do better but I like having arms lore on him all the time and I don't seem to need much more for what I do. I guess I am some what old fashioned but I think that idealy my smith shoud wear what he makes himself. I am not going for the paragon versions of these elementals so I seem to be ok. I'll be happy with this for a while. Thanks for reminding me to insure...think I have a robe that is not which is made by my old guilmaster long ago.

So I killed a valorite with my smith/miner and just macing/tactics/anatomy/arms lore and it went much better than the past times I did it where I had to run away and heal up 10 to 20 times to kill the valorite ele. It just took like 3 times. I guess if I wanted to kill the paragons that would be different. But really this game isn't made with me in mind as I would have been happy if they stopped changing after trammel. I haven't been able to keep up with all the changes and so resign myself to finding my own way. Still I am happy so change away world and I will happily lag behind.
