줄거리
왕국이 가을로 접어들었다. 그 말은 이제 농부가 자신이 애지중지 키워 온 곡식을 수확할 때가 왔다는 의미이기도 했다. 그러나 최근 왕국에 소문이 퍼지기 시작했다. 난데없이 까마귀 떼가 나타나 브리타니아의 남부에 있던 일부 농장을 완전히 쓸어버렸다는 이야기였다. 무엇보다 농부들을 두렵게 한 것은 그 까마귀 떼가 평범한 새 떼가 아니라는 것이었다.
소문에 따르자면, 정체를 알 수 없는 거대하고 하피처럼 생긴 세눈박이 까마귀가 새 떼를 몰고 다닌다는 이야기였다. 소문은 마을을 거치며 부풀어졌고, 이윽고 블랙쏜 왕에게도 보고가 올라왔다. 왕은 동물학자에게 조언을 구했으나, 동물학자 역시 그런 생명체를 본 적이 없다고 보고하며 단순히 새 떼에게 피해를 본 게 지나치게 부풀려진게 아닌가 하는 회의적인 반응을 내놓았다.
남부에서 시작된 피해 보고는 점차 북상하더니, 이윽고 브리튼과 가까운 스카라 브래에서까지 올라왔다. 블랙쏜 왕은 이것이 단순한 소문이 부풀려진 것이 아니라는 생각이 들었다. 그의 예리한 감각이 머리 속에서 경고하고 있었다. 그는 즉시 브리튼 왕립 도서관에 있던 동물학자 중 한 명을 소환했다.
동물학자 에드문드는 잔뜩 긴장해 있었다. 그는 사실 귀족 가문에서 태어났지만, 어릴 적부터 동물에 관심이 많았기에 동물학자가 되었지만 역설적이게도 브리튼을 벗어나 본 적은 없는 전형적인 책상머리형 인간이었다. 그런 그를 다른 동물학자들은 '정작 실제 동물을 보면 분간도 못할 놈'이라며 조롱했다.
그렇지만 그는 브리타니아에 존재하는 동물에 대한 지식은 대단했다. 도서관 관장인 베리티 역시 그런 그의 기억력에는 혀를 내두를 정도였다. 그리고 이 기회에 그의 지식을 살리고, 실제로 브리튼을 나가 세상을 볼 수 있길 바라며 베리티는 그에게 블랙쏜 왕을 알현하고, 피해를 본 지역을 방문하라는 지시를 내렸다.
에드문드는 그 지시에 화들짝 놀라며, 한사코 도서관을 나가길 거부했지만 베리티가 최근 부족한 봉랍을 일쉐나에 가서 집시를 도와 전갈 독낭을 채취하는 걸 도와 봉랍을 만들어서 가져올 것인지, 아니면 브리타니아를 여행하며 피해 조사를 보고하고, 까마귀 떼에 대한 단서를 찾아낼 것인지를 선택하라고 협박 아닌 협박을 하고 나서야 그는 자리에서 일어났다.
그는 집에 가고 싶은 심정이 계속 머리에 맴돌았지만, 가까스로 참으며 왕궁을 들어섰다. 그가 우물쭈물하는 모습을 보며 경비병은 차가운 눈빛을 쏘아대자 그는 더 위축되었다. 그리고 그가 간신히 입을 떼서 경비병에게 말했다.
"저기...왕을 뵈러 왔는데 어디로 가야될까요?"
경비병은 어처구니없는 표정을 짓더니 반대쪽 동료를 쳐다보았고, 반대쪽 동료는 그 시선을 보자마자 고개를 가로저었다.

Story
Realm is now entering to the autumn. It means farms are starting harvest what they've taking care of. Recently, however, there are rumors spreading widely to the realm that horde of crows appeared and literally wiped out few farms in southern area. And those crows were not ordinary crows that they had seen.
Futhermore, what made farmers scared is, a mysterious huge harpy like three eyed crow was led them. Rumors start spread from south and eventually King Blackthorn. King asked advice from naturalists, but they reported they have never seen such creature, and they were skeptical that such rumors often overblown by backwoodsmen.
But reports keep coming from south and now from Skara Brae as well. King was quiet sure that this rumors are not overblown as naturalists said. His sharp sense warns him. He summons one of naturalist from royal library immediately.
Naturalist Edmund obviously looks nervous. He was a noble born, but he was interested in animals and became a naturalist. Ironically, he is a typical scholar that had enormous knowledge but never left his town, Britain. So some of naturalist laughed at him and mocking him by saying 'he would never recognize animals he studied if he sees them in real'.
However, it is true that his knowledge about animals are tremendous. Even Verity, the librarian of royal library admit his has amazing memory. She wanted to him to go out and see the real world and doing something useful with his knowledge.
Her order gave Edmund a spring and refused to leave library. But when Verity made him choose go to ilshenar and helps gypsy to collect poison sac to make sealing wax, which is always ran out soon in library or do what she told. It was almost a threat and he couldn't dare refuse her order and stand up from his chair.
He really wanted to go to home, but he endured. Guards staring him nervous in front of gate of Castle Blackthorn. Those eyes made him more nervous. He finally opened his mouth and talked to the guards.
"Umm...I am here to see the King, where should I go?"
A guard looked his colleague standing opposite him with absurd face, and the colleague shook his head.
