With thanks from UOGuide.

Remember Andrew?
He was handing out those Glass Swords to those who, what was it? Agreed to join something?

The dawn of hope comes; a light to fill the void,
and with her ride legions forgotten.
The cold of platinum against crimson fire,
elder ones return to the world of men.
She shall take in hand the icons of power,
The Book, the Candle, and the Flame.
She shall pledge herself to Virtue,
She shall descend into the darkness, and with her,
all the chosen kingdom, and there,
end

I'm thinking they are Minax's next scheme. I mean if they were the good guys how come they are all red?

Well... I don't like either one, but the thought of getting dread swampies and later using them against their original masters/tamers make me want to kill snakes first...

Then bane later... :p:thumbup:

And for Cal, it ends with:
Inu the Crone’s eyes focused. She straightened, lifted her head slowly, and with a newly clear voice and unburdened eyes stared into the heavens. She had only two words, two words she had longed to say for many years, that now spilled out so humbly.

“It’s gone.”

And yet, Inu the other day was still spouting insanity in Moonglow (GL).

Wow. If they are Minax supporters that only makes me like the Bane more! :) ( Minax)

If they do turn out to be Shadowlords that will sort of suck because I thought we pretty much killed off all the Shadowlords.

*sighs*

The Shadowlords are 'dead,' banished from our plane(s) with their defeat under the blood temple on Fire Isle. Could they still have supporters? Aye, the Shadowlord faction still exists - even if its a mere shadow of what it was. And even then, only until the factions revamp.

Inu is still in Moonglow because Mythic has forgotten about her, or doesn't know how to turn her off. More than likely, she hasn't been relevant in nearly a year, not that she's said anything new since before the time-shifted rift Moonglow.

The Shatter Potion
"The s-s-shattering potion caus-s-ses-s-s crys-s-stal and glasssss to shatter! We use it against the Bane Chos-s-sen."

While sounding interesting, what the potion actually does is.. well.. not. It breaks a random potion in a player's pack. Not exactly devastating and unlikely to effect a glass dagger. Who carries one of those around anymore anyway?

Andrew's plotline disappeared, as did many of the threads from the lead-up to SA. Several events didn't happen to tie up those threads due to time constraints.

How does a player know things like this? This in itself is a problem. Just one of many, evidently. This is no blame on you, just saying that the Devs get too "close" to the players sometimes and it can cause problems. And since we have this, can you tell me, what exactly is going on? Do you know the plan?

And what the hell? "We have a great storyline you're gonna love, but we're not going to play it out."
Great. Stuff.

Items, Mythic. Just give us items. That's always interesting.

I didn't ask what was supposed to happen, but a reliable source informed me that several global events were dropped due to time constraints. Nobody was happy about it, but they didn't want to release a crappy event.

Several shard's EMs tried to fill in the holes with small-scale events... More with Dawn, freeing Ricardo & Avery, etc.

It is no different than how it was prior to the Blackrock Generator Explosion.

The Shadowlords are manifestations of evil relegated to the Infernal Void; incapable of touching the world unless we allowed them to. Their Faction emerged as a (fanatical) splinter group once associated with Minax who prophecied that their Dark Masters would emerge from the Darkness and conquer Britannia. And sure enough we released them.

The Three are banished to the Void. But all that has done is return them to the same state of being they occupied before being unleashed upon the World; Tempters and Tormenters able to influence the world from afar and inspire vice in the innocent.

I'm kind've with the pre-Ultima 9 description of what happened when the Shadowlords were defeated and banished. The original plot was that the Shadowlords (and there were more than three) began to merge with one another to create the being known as the Guardian.

It was only partway through the development of Ultima 9 that the story was changed to describe the Guardian as the manifestation of the Avatars vices; a description that created huge inconsistancies and plotholes when the earlier titles are considered.

Speaking of the Bane...

What slayer works against them? Want to go ahead and prepare myself prior to slaughtering them!! I was figuring Orc maybe?

I always thought that the perfect explanation of the Guardian was that he was Mondain.
Here's the thinking. Mondain had bound the Sun Ruby Gem to himself and to Sosaria, thus creating The Gem of Immortality and giving MOndain great powers over Sosaria.
But if the Gem was bound to Mondain, so too was Mondain bound to the Gem.

So when the Gem was shattered, it created all these worlds of Sosaria, and upon Mondain's death, what happened to his spirit which was bound in immortality to the Gem and the world? The shattered pieces of the Gem or Immortaility each held a copy of Sosaria, each one twisted to their own version by the shape of the shard. But if each piece held a copy of the bound world of Sosaria, so too did each piece hold a version of the bound spirit of Mondain.
And the Guardian was born, in each universe, yet a single entity via the Void. Just as all the Lord British's were each a version of the single entity, different but the same, which allowed the Britishes to come together when they joined as one and left for the Void.

But the mystery, and the various versions of what things mean, in a sense this is good for the game. It mimics real life and adds tremendous depth. In real life, history is often twisted to serve cults or factions. The "facts" are different depending on who's speaking. Agendas are served. And so it seems in the lore of this game. I think this just adds to it's richness. And I really like these kinds of debates.

Just adding, in real life we have the classic example. The Lost Arc of the Covenant. Various people and groups today all claim they have the facts. They can "prove" it. But what really is it and what really happened to it? Is it a link with God, a link to alien cultures, or just some artifact of human design? Is it in any number of Ethiopian churches, or in France under several chapels, or buried on a Scottish Isle?

That's why this Ultima stuff is so fascinating. It's so deep and mysterious. Yeah, it's just a game, but it's a fun game.

Probably a Repond, since these guys are human.

Indeed, the bane are genocidal really, they speak of clearing the world of ophidians and races like them, what happens when they succeed? will they move on to Gargoyles and Elves? It would seem the bane want one Race to rule them all...

and I doubt repond will work, repond is HumanOID not human if i remember correctly. If any of them were mages maybe a Mage Slayer talisman but i think they are all dex/tamers

I always thought that the perfect explanation of the Guardian was that he was Mondain.
If we disregard the dubious and ill concieved plot of Ultima IX; the Guardian is Mondain. Or an aspect of him.

The Shadowlords have always been described as manifestations of pure malice that are bound in some form or another to Mondain. Avatars of Evil that were either his creation or aspects of his soul that went on to possess the hapless Astaroth, Faulinei, and Nosfentor. (According to my understanding that is how the Shadowlords faction came to be. The Armies of Minax are the vestiges of Mondains Legions; many of whom perceive the Shadowlords to be the reincarnation or manifestation of their true master.)

When the Avatar of Virtue defeated the Shadowlords; he merely banished them back to the Abyss. (And in Martian Dreams the Shadowlords continued to haunt the Avatar through his dreams.) But at some point in the plot (before it was changed in Ultima XI) the Shadowlords are described as beginning to merge into one devilish being that has the power to enslave some worlds and destroy others.

The original plot would actually serve the storyline of Ultima Online better than the Ultima IX Retcon. Otherwise if the Avatar cannot and does not exist in the Shards, neither can the Guardian.

Just adding, in real life we have the classic example. The Lost Arc of the Covenant. Various people and groups today all claim they have the facts. They can "prove" it. I'm side tracking a bit; but Ultima and Ultima Online is rife with allusions to real life religions and cultures.
