*…a boy is hawking a special edition of the Trinsic Beacon with details of the current state of affairs. He claims that all the revenues of the special edition will be donated to Trinsic’s treasury, but he is just a little too grubby and entirely too eager to be fully believable…*

Dragged back into the light!
(by PLC)

The purpose of our special edition is to give you, our dear and most esteemed readers, a summary of recent events. In addition, we hereby pledge to donate the revenue from this special edition entirely to the rebuilding of the City Treasury!

For weeks now we have reported about the war which is brewing in the North. Vesper has once more openly laid claim on the City of Minoc, which has so far been a loyal and integral part of the kingdom. These plans for an expansion of their territory coincide with the sudden and abrupt vanishing of Minoc’s governor, the notorious Escaflowne. We also reported at length about the passive stance of His Majesty, King Blackthorne. Even Vesper’s declaration of war against the City of Minoc barely received more than a disinterested shrug from our honoured monarch. Even worse, the treacherous leaders of Skara Brae seized the chance for personal gain and joined causes with the Vesperians, further disrupting the stability of the land.

In the days that followed, our beloved City of Trinsic was the only one to openly stand against this warmongering. Outspoken, honest and honourable as always, the people of Trinsic made clear that they would strongly oppose the aggressions against their northern friends from Minoc. Preparations were under way to support the defence of Minoc, but were hindered and delayed by a most despicable criminal act. Through treachery and subterfuge, criminals managed to breach the safety of Trinsic’s bank and stole a large part of the City’s Treasury. The City Watch instantly took up the pursuit of the thieves while the King and the Royal Guard were alerted to support these efforts.

Even while the Royal Guard assembled, the crafty City Watch of Trinsic pursued the thieves into the forest, where a short but vicious fight ensued in which the scoundrels were mortally wounded. Despite the wounds, they managed to flee into the solen tunnels where the pursuit was taken over by the Royal Guard. Despite enemies and blocked tunnel passages, the Guard followed the trail to the north-eastern exit, where they soon discovered the slain thief. The grim satisfaction was short-lived however, since the treasury funds could not be recovered. Before the rising suspicions of an evolvement of Vesper could burst into the open the meeting was adjourned and spies and investigators sent out to discover new clues.

This passing Sunday, new discoveries led towards Cove, the current province of Vesper. A royal investigator found that Covians had formed a league with pirates and had heavily fortified the watchtower overlooking the approach to the covian bay and docks. The Royal Guard set out on the Rose of Trinsic, the majestic flagship of Trinsic’s navy. Together with two smaller crafts the Guard launched a raid on Cove and fought their way up to the fortified tower, in which they discovered literal heaps of stolen riches – along with the missing treasury strongbox from Trinsic. Even while the box was recovered, shouts from the outlooks back at the ships heralded a new danger. Covian pirate ships had laid a trap and were now blocking the entrance of the bay! However, with blazing cannons and the courage of the Royal Guard the pirates were soon forced to retreat. In the meantime, tidings of these new events had reached King Blackthorne, who had chosen this moment to finally react to the chaos in his kingdom. Travelling either by foresight or magic, he soon raised his banner at the abandoned guardpost north of Cove. The Rose of Trinsic spotted the signals and changed course, delivering the Royal Guard just in time to protect the king from a new attack from brigands and assassins.

Seeing the fighting with his own eyes, King Blackthorne decreed that the guardpost will henceforth be manned and maintained by his guards, to serve as a secure stronghold near the Covian and Vesperian border. In order to emphasize his point, King Blackthorne also donated a plaque, dedicating the post to peace – an obvious message to the quarrelling cities of the North.

As for Trinsic… the recovered funds were safely returned to the treasury. The Covian pirates received a significant blow. However, much remains in the dark. Why did Cove start such aggressive acts towards the City of Trinsic? Because of our opposition against the warmongering in the North? Did Vesper have a hand in these events? Even though their governor and citizens helped to recover the funds, the village of Cove is still considered a province under the influence of Vesper. It remains to be seen how Vesper will handle the affair. A public investigation and trial would be essential in proving that they were not involved in these criminal activities.

Many questions remain, but we make a promise to you, esteemed readers, to drag all these matters from the darkness back into the light!

tl;dr: This is a plotline for roleplaying events. The monsters are deliberately weaker to give all players a chance to participate. There will be no big juicy drops here.
