Apparently a new pet bug...

BIG WARNING: Tamers, if you value your pet, link your favourite ones to pet balls, even if you don't use pet balls for that pet. Link them and save the pet balls somewhere safe...

Today I nearly lost my bonded cu (again, curse you, Magincia Boat Decay!)...

Details: I couldn't reproduce the bug, so I don't know what exactly makes it tick, but here's what happened...

Recalled to stable, dismounted my cu (uo assist macro), stabled it (uo assist macro). I then claimed my greater dragon (again, uo assist macro), and recalled home...

Now here's where things get weird: I arrived home, and I had my just stabled cu, aswell as my greater dragon with me. The cu wouldn't listen to commands, and I couldn't mount it. I told my guildies what happened, one of them said she had it happen to her aswell (don't know when, so no idea when this bug was implemented), and told me to relog and stable it...

First, I relogged. The cu and dragon were still both there. Then, as I recalled to the stable to stable it, the cu didn't follow. I stabled my greater dragon and checked the stable. The cu was gone from both the follower list, aswell as the stable...

Relogging did NOT work, it won't bring back your pet. It's effectively lost. It didn't roam around at the spot where I recalled from to the stable either. I guess it gets stuck in limbo...

Now, I was fortunate enough to have linked my cu to a pet ball, merely yesterday too. Using the pet ball did bring back the cu. It still wouldn't listen to commands, but that was sorted after stabling it and getting it back out...

Thank you for this information. I've read at least one other thread where this happened to someone,too.

Your idea of getting a pet ball and stashing it somewhere for each pet is great.

I sure hope they can figure out what causes that, I'd sh*t if I lost any of my pets to such a thing, my pets rule.

I had a similar thing in KR, I remember it well. I was trying to fight succubus with my Bake Kitsune and was getting tuned up so I took it out and stables it and come abck with Cu Sidhe. Later (20 minutes to an hour) I get an offer to go to Doom, so I go and log out there or die there or something. When I log back in I keep getting messages... Your Pet Kitsune cannot join you because you have too many followers. Yeah well, it was supposedly STABLED!! There was nothing I could do because I would be in Doom for the next month, but every time I would die or log out I would get that message. Then I went and stabled Cu Sidhe and logged out and finally got the Kitsune back and stabled it.

It was weird and similar. And thanks for the warning. I really should do the pet balls but I am too lazy right now.

EDIT: I also never saw both of them simultaneously

Pet balls are very handy indeed. I carry an insured pet ball with me for whatever pets I have out of the stables at the time.

Ick, you gotta hate losing your pets to a bug like that. Twice now ive had pets go *poof* from houses being placed on them (seriously youd think they'd see the briks and mortar in time to get outa the way, hell even my stupid cat would)
Both were nightmares, both times i could see the pet on my follower spots, but nothing could bring it back.... ofcourse got a canned responce from GM.

Thought I would share this since this thread popped a memory.

Back in 99 the stables were bugged. The pets actually didn't get stabled, the graphics of the pet were stabled and that was it. The end result was a stable full of wild WW , nightmares and dragons hurling breath weapons and spells, killing anybody that got to close. It was one of the funniest moments I have experienced in UO.
