Anti Cheating Software (GameGuard, etc)

Has any game ever successfully implemented anti-cheating software? I know UO attempted to implement something and it caused all sorts of problems. L2 & GameGuard are having issues. And so forth and so on.

Is there a half decent anti-cheating platform? I think devs should just give up. Cheating is inevitable.

Punkbuster was a major screwup for UO though.

they never implemented it, so i'm not really sure how it could be considered a screw up.

I think having to back off implementing it is a screw up in and of itself.

iirc the devs opted to instead try to fix their own outrageous bugs and whatnot, but lots of companies use punkbuster... like EA heh

One of the biggest mistakes EA did with UO was not implement Punkbuster. Due to people being paranoid about it, we now have ****LOADS of Cheaters in UO, especially in Fel.
