You need GM carp if you want to craft stone stuff. But you also need GM mining, so you can dig up the lumps of granite that you need.

For each of these, you will need to spend around 10k in the gargoyle city (western end, from I-can't-remember-which-of-the-gargoyle-crafters) to buy the appropriate book - titles are something like "making stone stuff" and "mining for stone".

To mine up the stone, you just need to make sure you shovel or pickaxe is set to "ore and stone", not just "ore".

To make the stone items, you need some stonemasons' hammer-and-chisels, also available from the gargoyles.

The bad news is, brace yourself for wasting quite a few lumps of stone when making the harder items.

The good news is, the masonry skill (which is a sort-of "hidden skill") can be helped a bit with a suitable talisman, same as the other crafts. This will increase your chance-to-make.

My theory has always been that it was a stepping stone to a "architecture" skill for building houses, but never ended up going all the way.

Actually, I would prefer that either the masonry crafts were replaced with 100-skill recipes or masonry made into a full skill. It feels rather awkward/inconsistent the way it is now.

Well, stone is like tiles and makes house add ons in the carpentry menu like tables and chairs, so it does kind of make sense.
