Ancient Hammer?

IF you are 120 smith, does holding an ancient hammer then using a runic hammer, improve the quality of the item?


Or are ancient hammers for sub 120 smiths and/or for enchancing only?

Even at 120, there are quite a few of the new ML weapons you can't make exceptional 100% of the time unless you hold a +30 ASH. You also can't make some of the plate armor exceptional 100% of the time unless you hold a +15 ASH.

Since you don't want to waste a runic on non-exceptional weapons, it best to hold the ASH while you use the runic from your backpack.
