Can someone give me an idea to where its worth using one of these please. I was given a bag of five from someone at the bank and now don't know whether to use them or save them save until I really need something.

I may be wrong on this one but I believe if you hold an ancient hammer but use a normal one. You wont use the charges but you can still smith with the benefits...

You can only use the tool you're holding.
If you're training smithing, then it's not worth using them, but for making/enhancing or anything that would benefit from a +10 to smithing, then you should use them.

+10s are pretty common, though, and obviously aren't as good as +30s or +60s. So, you probably don't have to ration your charges on them.

They have about 500 charges each.

So if i'm GM smith and use a SP to raise my cap to 110, this hammer will give me 110 skill?

(Like using a ring or a brace)

The +10 is regardless of cap.
A legendary smith can use a +60 hammer to hit 180 smithing

unless they changed it im not quite sure thats true kimi, you can hold a +whatever AsH while using a runic or normal tool, but it takes the charges from both.

[/ QUOTE ]Whan I tried a tinkered smithing hammer while holding a +30, it told me something along the lines of "You can only use the equipped tool"
But, there could actually be an exception for runics, or there may have been a change/exception that renders the experience innacurate.

it works for me, im using my +30 AsH with my 120 smith and some tinkered tongs from my gm tinker, and making iron bone harvesters with the tongs and its taking charges from both the tongs and the AsH

*edit* even works making iron plate tunics with an npc bought hammer

Up until recently (by recently I mean within the last year!
) the ASH did not use a charge. This was fixed, as if you were holding an ASH and using a runic hammer your ASH would effectively last forever.
