At the last Governors' Council meeting, Governor Phoenix of Trinsic and I butted heads once again regarding the abuse and unnecessary slaughter of perfectly healthy dogs in Trinsic. The most recent edition of the PaxLair Times discussed the problem as well, but it must be noted that lead PaxLair Times reporter Ashlynn is a known and consistent detractor of both the city of Vesper and myself personally. I found the veracity of the report to be highly suspect, and vowed to make my own investigation as soon as possible.
This morning my daughter Willow visited Trinsic on unrelated business and was met by Governor Phoenix. Willow reported to me that there were indeed many dogs about Trinsic (including a rabid one that attacked Governor Phoenix!), most notably (and interestingly) grouped near the governor's office. However, she also relayed to me this conversation:
As Vesper has recently been greatly troubled by pirates, I found this exchange most interesting indeed. If Governor Phoenix is knowingly supplying pirate ships, that is most troubling indeed. Disturbing also is the possibility that dog meat--possibly rabid dog meat at that!--is making its way into the Trinsician food supply.
Willow told me that she brought up this possibility during her conversation with Governor Phoenix, but that the governor had indicated that the meats were instead shipped to Vesper and Britain. I have thus warned all the inns, taverns, and food suppliers in Vesper not to purchase meat from Trinsic and will be consulting with Governor Dark Writter of Britain as soon as possible. I am considering the possibility of a full trade embargo, as I feel that this action represents negligent or even malicious exposure of Vesperian and Britannian citizens to contaminated and likely mislabeled food products.
I had some time this evening to investigate the issue personally and I headed to Governor Phoenix's office in Trinsic. To my surprise and disgust, there were no dogs to be found. Instead, this was the scene that greeted me:
Rats! Willow had mentioned noticing a few rats. This coupled with both her and Ashlynn's reports of rabid animals indicated to me a potentially serious problem. I continued my investigation at the butcher shop mentioned in the PaxLair Times article.
Indeed, the butcher shop was also infested! I looked around, hoping to find the source of these pests, and I believe that I may have found it:
The Trinisic docks are covered in rats!
Although I am loathe to speculate based solely on what I've seen here, I can report that I saw only one dog in Trinsic but saw many, many rats. The insinuations against me leveled by Governor Phoenix of Trinisic and Ashlynn of the PaxLair Times are clearly false, and indeed it appears that a setup may be taking place. I suspect that the dogs my daughter saw were planted there for the inspector the King promised to send out... or perhaps are even being bred in Trinsic for slaughter and sale under false pretenses.
On one thing everyone seems to agree: indeed, there is a public health crisis brewing in Trinsic! However, it does not appear to be the one that Governor Phoenix is claiming!
I shall, of course, be submitting my own report to the King on this matter.
