Everybody has a pet peeve or project they would like to see in UO. Mine is that I would like my mage to be able to look like a mage instead of a warrior. I have seen this idea in several forms proposed by others and I would just like to bring it to the forefront again.
I would like to see either crafters or an NPC be able to "alter" items to a different graphic. EXAMPLE: Gorget is converted to an ahnk necklace (graphic only, not the anniversary drop), the necklace would have the exact same mods and weight as the original gorget, take up the same slot on paperdoll, but give the appearance of jewelry instead of armor. Another example: Leggings of embers is "altered" to a pair of long pants or elven pants in appearance, but keeps all the same mods and takes up the same slot as the original piece. All that changes is the appearance or "art" of the object. Therfore there are no balance changes (all mods stay the same), no new art is needed (use existing art forms), and diversity in attire is acheived. (My mage can look like---a mage!)
The tougher issues might be with robes as many are now out there with mods on them - if sashes and robes took the same slot on the paperdoll that would solve the "alter robe" issue, but that is only one possible solution. I see a problem with being able to wear a shirt and chestplate at the same time, but that can be tweaked as well. And maybe gloves - mages in fiction have to have "bare" hands to cast - that may require something special from the art department.
The idea has its pro's and con's - but I would like magic users to have the option to look like magic users...oh and how about more pirate fashions? ARG!
