It's part of a quest =P

She turns into a wolf at night and you have to kill her.

Thats where the wolf slayer dagger comes from.

I was always a little sad that I couldn't find a way to save her.

It's a bit creepy that lycanthropy is out there in the world ... could get messy if ever became contagious to player characters.

Yes and you get the only weapon with wolf slayer in game in return from this Quest.
