Altering quiver of infinity

I saw a quiver of infinity altered for a gargy as wing armor. I tried it myself and it worked, but as soon as I recalled to Malas it disappeared. Being the idiot I am, I tried it again. Same result. Anyone else experience this, and is there a fix for it?
