ADSL(2) (OT)

Hello all,

Well shock horror, I have just been advised that Telstra has updated my local exchange to ASDL(2) which means I may now be inside (just, by a few 100 metre perhaps) the allowable distance limit to connect.

My query is then - although the hardware is Telstra, what other companys can I price check plans against who also run on the Telstra backbone??

Thanks

I know Iprimus are running ADSL2. I've been meaning to look at it for the past few days myself.

I use iiNets Naked DSL which has speeds as fast as your connection can handle. iiNet bypass Telstra hardware and connect you up to their routers at the exchange level. This means that your line is essentially dead (the copper telephone cable to your home is disconnected from Telstras network and there is no line rental involved) but still allows full broadband facility including Voip. Having said that you cannot dial out to 000 as you are not connected to Telstras network.

have you actualy tested that? the 000 thing? You can call 000 from a mobile phone without even a simcard in it.

Well! I either read it and they changed it, i dreamed it or that LSD I took in the 70's finally kicked in!

Can I make calls to 000 using Naked iiTalk?
Yes, you can make calls to 000 from your iiTalk service. However, if your broadband connection is disconnected or your VOIP modem is not working, you can't make any VOIP calls, including to 000. If your VOIP is suspended due to late account payment or otherwise, you can still make calls to 000 (and iiNet support).
