Adjusted vs. Real Skill with HCI Question

Quick question using two different characters:

1) An char with 100 archery + 20 from hunters headdress (scrolled to 120) for a total of adjusted archery skill of 120

2) An char with 120 real archery skill

Both have 45 HCI from items, both attacking the same target (let's assume 120 melee or equivalent (anat + eval or mage wep) with 45 DCI. Let's ignore parry, dex, etc. All else is equal, just the composition of the source of archery skill.

Which character has a higher % chance to hit, 1 or 2, or are both equal?

I guess the basic question is, is HCI applied to real skill or adjusted skill post items?

Thanks for any help!

Eh? ? ?

It's the same. Your archery ability is equivalent to the weapon wielded in combat, hence your real skill is increased with skill modifiers as needed.

Combat skill is ALWAYS what is calculated first in terms of player vs. player AND monster (albeit not the same exact calculation).

Hit chance increase then figures in for player vs. player combat. The hit chance increase will be applied on your person versus the defense chance increase of your opponent. Everything being equal...you have a 50% chance to hit or miss. Plain and simple.

And quite frankly, combat skill does not matter for everything else that you thought could have mattered. It is basically the players or monsters combat/defense ability versus you. Nothing else.

i know in reality that's how it should work ^ and possibly does, but from personal experience it seems my 45 HCI 120 archer hits better than my 45 HCI 100 (+20 headress for 120) archer...maybe just me.

Yes...agreed. That is why for me personally, if I feel the need to squeeze points in somewhere on my template, I do it anywhere but the weapon skill.

I agree. For me, it "seemed" the RNG much prefers my weapon skill to be 120 than to be item boosted. Crazy, I know, but I generally insist on REAL weapon skill these days..............
