You can break up any multi tile add on into parts. You use goza mats to do it - basically you can place an add on in your home anywhere as long as it has room for it's footprint and isn't next to the easternmost wall or the front steps. You would place square goza mats that mimic the footprint of the item where you want it to go.
For example, a large forge has a 1 x 4 footprint.
Raise up every goza mat by the same amount so all gozas remain at the same height. You have to raise them at least 2 times. Place your add-on, then target one of the goza mats and lower it twice. This should break the add-on. Now use an axe to chop the bits you dont' want, and lower or raise the rest. The add-on is permanently broken, there is no redeeding it.
IMPORTANT:
If you have a custom house and you go into customize mode you will lose any broken add-ons, unless you remember to lock each and every broken piece down before you go into custom mode. The lockdown status of these items will reset each day, so if you customize one day after you locked the pieces down you will have to re lock them.
Some issues:
- addons may be very tall and will hit the ceiling if you try to place them on too high a platform (such as soulforges, which can only be placed with a standard height ceiling is not above)
- roofs can cause issues like ceilings do, with ovens or fireplaces and other tall addons
- you can place things by railings like you would find in a keep by the stairs (even tho you can't walk in that space, good use of non walkable space really). You have to raise the gozas several times so they pop up over the handrail, then raise them two more times if you are going to be breaking the item up (such as stone tables). Then proceed to lower a goza to break the add-on and then you can axe what you don't want and lower the rest to where you want it.
Some interesting things:
- once an add-on is broken, it's now no longer connected to its other pieces, so you can generally raise and lower the leftover bits however much you want. Some add-ons that only occupy a single tile can also be turned with the deco tool (such as spinning wheels). This is great if you made the wrong facing of a single-tile item, especially stone forges which only come in one facing.
