Called a gm to lock it three times, 2 ppl on hold at ea, trying live chat support, WHAT ELSE TO DO???? (not mine, a friends)
File a report with your local law enforcement agency and then EA will give them the ip details of whoever is stealing from you.Called a gm to lock it three times, 2 ppl on hold at ea, trying live chat support, WHAT ELSE TO DO????
Actually, I'd rather someone showed up at ea's door...we were both on the phone to them, his phone died and they wouldn't give a call back, my rep said they wouldn't call. the secret question and answer was useless and even tho I myself have gotten old acct info without needing the cc used or code, the scumbag who got the info merely called them and got the info, got into the acct and my rep denies that can happen. All we keep getting is "go to live chat" and still NO GMmy heart goes out to you. i think your doing all you can.
i really wish you could show up at the sleezeballs door with a louisville slugger.
apparently, the looter somehow got the acct name we dont know how, but the looter claims my friend gave it to him but my friend said no freakin way, no one knows it but him. The guy then called ea and they gave him the pw. He then reactivated the acct (it was inactive) and began looting it. EA required NO acct info like cc or card before giving out the pw, which I know from firsthand experience that they will do, altho the rep i was talking to said that doesnt happenSounds like you were doing/did all you could.
What I'd like is your friend to tell us what he did to give hackers access to his account.
Did he/she:
1. Give his/her best 'friend'/gf/bf ingame or irl their account info/password?
2. Visit player run websites or buy gold or items from websites and/or give these players/websites his ICQ/email and then accept or open links sent by them?
3. Download and use unapproved 3rd party programs?
4. Wear a halo and read a holy book whilst playing UO?
Nobody with any type of online account likes a hacker, but honestly I think reasons 1-3 are the main reasons people get their UO accounts hacked.
PREVENTION is the best method for stopping account hackers so your friend could do other UO players a service by being specific about his UO habits (without breaking Stratics naming rules).
That being said I hope your friend DOES file a police report and the hacker gets in trouble irl and that your friend doesn't lose too much.
If that's the case, then why did they give me info over the phone on five inactive accts I had without requiring me to provide proof I owned them? It depends on the rep you get and how lazy they feel atm I guess. All I did was give them the acct names and they gave me the pw's, no questions askedbut EAs not gonna give out password info without some proof you own that account.
I can't believe that based on my experiences with them regarding lost/changed passwords.
Because EA isnt following their own security policies consistently. My friends acct was given back finally and is now in the process of figuring out his losses. So far, the guild wasnt disbanded (he was the gm) but all his chars were booted and someone else was elevated to gm, and a bunch of others got booted, like me, probly cuz he didnt like what i was telling the victim what to do to get his acct back, lol.I don't understand how everything is being given back? My friend just got his account stripped/looted, and he got his account back but empty....

I don't see any 'hacking' here. What you all are talking about is called
'social engineering'
Hacking is when you brute force a system without lube until it's forced to give you it's secrets.
Maybe EA is giving him his stuff back because they realize their mistake in giving out the info to the wrong party?
You are on like a hire me badly roll this week. No offense but I think like 90% of UO customers would be banned by youHowever I will say this to EAMythic: If you would like to hire someone with
10+ years of expirence in dealing with customers, has no issues with relocation, long hours, and hourly pay rate. I strive VERY hard to always make my customers happy, I believe the Customer is always right.
Please let me know where I can send my resume.

Tis always the "Friend" that posts.... why is it that most account problems seem to be with Felucca players or done by felucca players? I am not saying this is the case but it seems like allot of account problems are because people use Ultima Online like its fricken EHarmony.com or the only place they can have friends.
Nice!blah blah blah....
However I will say this to EAMythic:blah blah blah.....I believe the Customer is always right.
Please let me know where I can send my resume.

QFTW.You are on like a hire me badly roll this week. No offense but I think like 90% of UO customers would be banned by you![]()
the thing with the secret question is you dont actually answer the correct answer for the question.. that way nobody can guess it.Update: He finally got EA to boot the guy off his acct and everything is being given back!!!!!!!! I still think he should file a police report tho.
I still want to know why, if we are supposed to have a secret question on the acct for security reasons, it did absolutely no good whatsoever in preventing or helping this situation.
It was my friends secret question, not the guy he bought the acct from. Isnt the secret question supposed to be part of stopping ppl from getting access to an acct by calling EA?the thing with the secret question is you dont actually answer the correct answer for the question.. that way nobody can guess it.
my secret question answer doesnt even have anything to do with the subject.
like what city was you born in? cheesecake..
with what you said about the other guy starting the account they can look up the first set of info if it has been changed..It was my friends secret question, not the guy he bought the acct from. Isnt the secret question supposed to be part of stopping ppl from getting access to an acct by calling EA?
Wait what? I didn't know that was illegal. Is it illegal to give someone an account? He was also told that buying an acct from a third party is illegal and the acct in question is now being banned. Way to go EA!!
Well "Illegal" is not really the right word... more like not supported. If I give/sell you an account and then call support and say I can't get in (for whatever reason) but have the CD code or original information I will most likely get my account back. As someone mentioned above the original/last owners info is on file even if the billing info/password has been changed. This is partially why they offer the service so it is "official" and it doesn't hurt that they make money off of the transaction.Wait what? I didn't know that was illegal. Is it illegal to give someone an account?
Huh, a lot of strange stuff going on here...As it turns out, it was an acct he bought some months ago and it was the original owner who called ea :/ , because the EA transfer method wasnt used.
He was also told that buying an acct from a third party is illegal and the acct in question is now being banned. Way to go EA!!
I'm going to say no to this. It is not illegal. Just recommended to use the account transfer from EA. In my understanding it is completely legal to just give accounts to people.Wait what? I didn't know that was illegal. Is it illegal to give someone an account?
Sounds like you were doing/did all you could.

- Good post, Schuyler Bain.Well "Illegal" is not really the right word... more like not supported...
...
So you got hacked through no fault of your own, but then say that you might click a link on an unsolicited e-mail asking for an account login and password? You probably didn't get hacked, you gave it away.....Not everyone does 1,2, or 3. I know I dont and I was hacked once. I was lucky and happened to be on another account at brit bank when I seen one of my chars from my 2nd account run by, I was like what the hell. I logged off and logged in to that account and stopped them by playing who can stay logged in longer while my wife call EA.
Just today I got an Email saying someone requested my WoW password and account info, which is fine with me. I have never played WoW and dont have a WoW account. But if I had I might have clicked the link that they had in the email, which looks like a real address. Instead I just deleted it.
Anyhow to the OP, good luck to your friend. Hope all works out.
Tom
